Jim Alred is the New Media Director for News Publishing Company. Since he arrived in Rome in December 2006, RomeNews-Tribune.com has posted more than 1,200 locally produced videos. In February 2008, the Web site placed second for general excellence in the Inland Press Association's New Frontier Awards.
Before coming to Rome, Alred served as an online videographer and online editor at the Naples Daily News in Naples, Fla. While there, Alred helped create and produce the Studio 55 and Prepzone Playbook vodcasts. His work on the shows and on the Web sites, NaplesNews.com and BonitaNews.com has won three Editor and Publisher EPPY awards, eight Newspaper Association of America Edgie awards, four New Frontier Awards, four Florida Press Club Awards and four Florida Press Association awards.
Alred is a 1996 graduate of Auburn University where he majored in journalism. During his time at Auburn, he competed on the cross country and track teams and served as sports editor for the campus paper, The Auburn Plainsman. Alred is also a 1991 graduate of East Rome High School.
He currently lives in Rome with his wife, Tara, and their two children, Ashley and Hayley.
Alred has served as a professional in residence for the Grady School of Journalism at the University of Georgia and has given new media presentations to the Georgia Press Association, Alabama Press Association, Georgia Sportswriters Association, Georgia Associated Press, Berry College, Auburn University and the University of Alabama.
