News Publishing Co. President Burgett H. Mooney III is a native Roman and Darlington School graduate. He received a bachelor of business administration degree from the University of Georgia in 1973 and was named president and owner of the Rome News-Tribune in 1977.
In 1987, he became publisher of the Rome News-Tribune, a title previously held by his father, the late Burgett H. Mooney Jr.
Mooney was presided over the growth of News Publishing Co. from one product to more than 20 today, including seven newspapers in Northwest Georgia and Northeast Alabama.
He is served on numerous committees of the Southern Newspaper Publisher Association and the Georgia Press Association, including a term as president of the Georgia Press Association.
Other boards on which Mooney has served include those of Darlington School, Wachovia Bank and Sun Coast Media Group of Venice, Fla.
In 2008, he was honored as one of the 100 most influential Georgians by Georgia Trend magazine.
Mooney has three adult daughters.
