Well, well. Rockmart continues to make backward, stupid moves. The city is in the process of cutting down the trees that line and shade Goodyear Avenue. From someone on the job, he said that the city thinks the trees are too big.

HI: Gonna jump in on this one. I am not from Polk County so I do not know anything about the subject you are referring to. However, did hear some talk that they are investigating the LE (all of them) in Cave Springs. Of course, that could just be politician talk from the Antique stores.

Rome, have you heard anything about this one? Sounded interesting to say the least!
Like I said before, could just be the political rhetoric that goes around every two years! Hee, Hee!
I will most definitely let you know if I hear anything concrete!
I suppose you read about the huge sign at the old Rhonda's store. It was on RomeNewswire.com.

Lots of talk about that one, according to my friends down that way!

Justa comment, observation, (little gossip) information, and a tiny bit of humor as usual!

Rome: That is what I hear also. Home Depot in Cedartown was buzzing with cops the other day, and after they left ( two illegals walked out with air conditioners in hand......... can you believe that!), there was a lot of talk going on among the customers about lots of things. Did not sound good.
Think that it must be election time........ hu?

Tiger, don't know many people with Polk SO, just one female, and I've only met her once, I doubt she'd wanna talk police corruption with me haha. I'm not even certain we're talking about the same person, I know nothing about her personal life. Hopefully, if the rumors are true, there will be lots of openings for LE in the Polk County/Cedartown Area soon ;-)

Rome: Just wanted u to know that I overheard the same info. Seems there is a connection between the Hispanics, possibly connected to the Cartersville "Pig/gang related incident"........ some connection between Zartic and possible govt. embezzzelment. Just keep looking. Contact one of your cronies from Polk County Sheriff's Dept. (female whose husband died a couple of years back, was associated with the Postal Service)...... she will probably talk to YOU! Two of the people who were onto the situation have since passed away (within the month)......... Hint, Hint!
G-evening friend!

Why have a photo contest on "Polk on purpose" and not have but one (memorial picture) represent Polk? Dogs and lighting are in every county in the country.

well like the government says......coserve energy.......ha! build more and more schools, have less and less jobs for the people in rockmart(polk county) and put these new schools out, out, out ,of the way......which cost more to bus these students, and for parents to have to go out of their normal range to get these students picked up. and last but not least let's not forget to not put in windows, that could be raised from time to time for a breath of fresh air........we'll just burn the lights and air even when not needed......there i've said it, been needing to say that for years, burn daylight, so to speak. i'm surprised window companies haven't already gone out of business................

I'm sick of the Polk County School Board building new schools in Rockmart and letting perfectly good ones go to waste. Where's your fiscal responsibility? The old middle school should have moved to the new high school. Perhaps the middle school could have been used for 3rd-5th grade or 4th and 5th grades. Kids could walk to either of these schools. Now Polk is building a new elementary school and shutting down Goodyear. So many children are walkers to Goodyear and it's bigger than Eastside. If Rockmart is growing they need more schools not the same number of schools. I say it's time to get rid of all the board members from Rockmart and Cedartown if they can't make better decisions.

Good points made on reckless driving. I'm surprised that some of the points are sooo low.

When I first read this about the move over law, I too thought 500 was too low. The child restraint points should be more than 1, especially for an infant or toddler.

http://www.dmv.org/ga-georgia/point-system.php

Georgia tracks incompetent drivers―or those with bad habits― through the use of a point system, like many other states. Driving is a privilege,

not a right,

and if you prove to be a bad, dangerous, or reckless driver, your license can be suspended for six months or more, canceled, or revoked.
(I know someone who had the State Patrol show up at their residence to collect the license plate off their vehicle)

Your license will be suspended if you accumulate 15 points within a 24-month period, or if you commit one or more of several different serious violations. Drivers under 21 years old can have their license suspended for being convicted of just one four-point offense.

Suspension, cancellation, or revocation of your license will cause your automobile insurance rates to rise, or possibly even cause your insurance company to cancel your policy.

Points per Violation
Points are issued and accumulated in a variety of ways. Below is a sampling of common offenses and the number of points they can earn you:

Reckless driving: 4 points
Unlawfully passing a school bus: 6 points
Improper passing on a hill or curve: 4 points
Speeding (miles per hour over the speed limit):
15-19 MPH: 2 points
19-24 MPH: 3 points
24-34 MPH: 4 points
34 MPH or more: 6 points
Disobedience of any traffic-control device or traffic officer: 3 points
Possessing an open container of an alcoholic beverage while driving: 2 points
Failure to secure a load: 2 points
All other moving violations: 3 points
Child restraint (first offense): 1 point
Child restraint (second and subsequent offense): 2 points
Aggressive driving: 6 points (license suspension for drivers under 21)
HOV lane violation (fourth and subsequent offense): 1 point

BigShiggy: So having read this from the Georgia DMV website, the "Move Over" fine of $500.00 could fall into the 6 points or more category. How about those insurance premiums after they find out about a "Move Over" ticket violation.

Speeding can get you places faster, maybe even your grave....You are responsible for your actions while driving. Slow down, save a life, maybe your own.

I don't see anything wrong with the Move-over Law, except that it is a shame to have to pass a law that makes people do what common sense says they they should do to start with. Common sense says when there is an emergency vehicle on the side of the road that you should slow down, move over if possible, and if not, to slow down and be prepared to stop. Apparently there are way too many people with a driver's license that are "common-sense challenged", and should pay a fine for this "handicap". As for fines starting at $500, that is too low. They should start at $1000, and include the forfeiture of their license. After all, if someone is not bright enough to move over when emergency vehicles are present, then do we really want them on the road anyway?
