Winracer, We all talk to each other on this blog and whether you were talking to me or not, I still have the option of answering you if I want. Jokes are not the only thing I post but, I enjoy a good joke and so do some of the other folks on this blog, however, if they are boring to you, they are not required reading. Perhaps a blog other than the Watercooler would suit you better.

Winracer the only reason I suggested that maybe it was you who turned in front of me was because you attack my and my faith and apparently took exception to me calling that person a moron. Nothing paranoid about it.

Maggie when I said that you were paranoid it was because you suggested that I may have been the one to cut you off today. You've got to admit that is a little off the wall.

Brian, I guess you didn't get what I meant when I said hiding here. Any family man that spends as much time here as you, seems to be hiding from something. Life maybe????? You just didn't get it at all. LOL You thought I meant that you were hiding fom bloggers. I meant hiding from real life. Sorry I didn't respond earlier but as for real life, I have one.

I think maybe some of those punishments for violations may be a little harsh, but agree that something needs to be done. Karen, I do agree that parents need to be responsible in teaching driving, but as a mother who has raised four children, teaching them to drive was not a lot of fun, (probably where some of my gray hair came from!!) and teenagers don't always listen to their parents (you know, parents don't know anything when you are a teen). When I was in school, back when dinosaurs roamed the earth, we had drivers ed as part of the curriculum and you had to take the written work before you could take the driving part and those rules of the road stuck in my head and I don't think they would have without it. I have to disagree on 16 still being a good age for kids to drive. While some may be very responsible, there is just too much traffic on the roads and too many distracted drivers. I think raising the age, even one year could make a big difference. I know that can make it harder on parents, who get tired of chauferring their kids, but you know kids are a parents responsibility and if we can make the roads a little safer, by making them wait one more year, then I am for it. Now, I am also for mandatory testing at a certain age as people get older. Being in my 50's, that doesn't thrill me, but we all know there are too many older drivers who don't belong behind the wheel of a car either. You know what scares me even more then a teen driver? An elderly driver talking on his/her cell phone and driving.

As a parent of a 15 year old boy, I can tell you that his driving solo scares me to death. When I was a teenager my parents paid for Drivers Education at what was then Walker Tech. It was a lot of fun driving around the course and I do remember things that were taught in that class that I would have never learned otherwise. I am glad that Drivers Education is required, although the cost of the class is extremely high for it to be required by law. Also it is not offered at very many locations. I would love to see it offered in the High Schools if it is to be a requirement for all teenagers. I also like the fact that parents have to verify that their children have driven so many daytime and night time hours before getting their license, but like everything else some parents will probably sign off on the hours without actually keeping up with them. The cost of insurance now on a teenage boy is tremendous now too. I will be paying in excess of $1600 per year just to add my son to our vehicles, never mind purchasing his own vehicle. Driving is just like everything else. It is a parents responsibility to teach them everything that they can about handling a vehicle, common courtesy, and the rules of the road, but when push comes to shove, you need to give your children wings so that they can fly on their own. I still think that 16 is an appropriate age for kids to begin driving solo. I also am grateful that they can not by law carry passengers other than siblings in the car with them for six months after receiving their license. 11 p.m. curfew for 16 year olds sounds reasonable, but for the 18 - 19 year olds that have graduated from high school and are working, etc that 11 p.m. curfew is ridiculous. My 15 year old is more alert at 11 pm than my nearly 40 year old self is at that time. Also I think that the mandatory citations that you have listed Brian may be a little extreme. If we are going to have those in place why not apply that to all folks that have a license. I know a lot of older folks that violate traffic laws that would benefit from the mandatory citations.

What on earth is paranoid about me responding back to you that I am human just like anyone else? I don't know about you, but I don't like it when people don't pay attention to traffic laws and drive any old way they want to. I have been in a serious accident, where someone ran a red light, because they were driving as if they were the only person on the road. Maybe you have been fortunate not to ever have been in a accident, but I have and it wasn't fun by any stretch of the imagination.

Brian, thank you again for your kind words.

I am responding to the Nib Hyde/Albert Bennett case, I would like to start by sending out my deepest sympathy to the Hyde family. I would also like to express my concern for the Bennett family, remember a person is innocent until proven guilty and for goodness sake he is some body's daddy, grandpa, uncle, and brother. I would also like to respond to the article in The Rome News Tribune where Mildred Bennett (Nib's 88 year old sister-in-law) was quoted saying "things came to a head on Nov. 31, 2006, when Hyde told Albert Bennett she no longer wanted to see him....... this statement cannot possibly be true because November only has 30 days in it!!!!!!!!!! Also, Mildred Bennett said that she first met Hyde in 1927 (if Hyde was 80 years old at the time of her death then she could not have been but 1 year old in 1927) when Mildred married Hyde's brother. If Mildred Bennett is 88 years old now, she must have gotten married at the ripe old age of 8, yes 8 (eight)!!!!!

Oh and one more thing, Mildred Bennett was also quoted in this particular article saying about Hyde "She was a good person. If she liked you, she'd do anything in the world for you.

Just something to think about what if she did not like you?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??

Hey Brian....a couple of new restaurants that I have tried recently.... The Bonefish Grill. It was absolutely wonderful. It is at Hamilton Place in the shopping center across from the new Chinese Restaurant (which is not that great btw). They have the best Salmon Steak that you have ever eaten out. Another great place is Silas Marleys on East Brainerd Road. Turn off of Graysville Road onto East Brainerd Road and go through another red light or so and it will be on the left. They have live entertainment. The food is wonderful and the entertainment isn't half bad either. If you eat at the Bonefish you will probably need reservations. I am not sure about Silas Marleys as it has been several months since my husband and I dined out there. Have fun!

Thanks Brian and Twinkie, You know what winracer, just because I am a Christian, doesn't mean I can't get angry at the way people drive and their blatant ignorance of the law and for that matter just plain old common courtesy. Also, didn't say any cuss words, but if I offended you by calling that person a moron, sorry. Oh, maybe that was you that kept on going, totally ignoring the yield sign.

Brian, wherever you go, enjoy your night out with your wife, you both deserve it and I am sure that you are wonderful help with your children.

Winracer, How Christian of you!! Perhaps while you are playing with your computer all day, you can find something of value to say.
Brian, Where you go depends on the type of food you like and how far you are willing to travel. In Rome I like Country Gentleman, in Cedartown, I like Zorbas, In Calhoun, I like China cook. Check your local telephone book, they usually include the menus and offer coupons for discounts at some nice restaurants.

For all you morons in Catoosa County who don't know what a yield sign means, let me refresh your memory!!!!! IT MEANS YIELD THE RIGHT OF WAY TO ONCOMING TRAFFIC!!!!!!!!!!! This means when the light is green at Battlefield Parkway and 41 Highway, traffic coming out of Captial Bank and turning left on the green light have the right to turn in front of traffic turning right off of Battlefield Parkway, thus the YIELD SIGN!!!!!!! Next time one of you turns in front of me, I will just let you hit me and it will be your fault and you can buy me a new car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you blog site for letting me vent!!!!

Twinkie, I have to agree with you, just because someone has been arrested and charged with a crime does not make that person guilty. Even if they have been convicted, doesn't necessarily mean they are guilty. None of us, unless we are personally involved know what happened. We only know what the news decides to tell us and that isn't always accurate. Believe me, I know.

MM, Maybe the Devil made him do it! Actually I don't know anymore than what I have read about the case. The man has not been proven guilty or convicted yet, so he is still by law, considered innocent. I have seen your postings in your fight to free a man that you believe to be innocent of the crime he was convicted of. Why not give this man the benefit of the doubt? I'm not trying to chastize you, I'm just trying to give you another perspective. Like you I have seen Judges that have no business sitting on the bench like the one that refused to send the molester of a 12 year old girl to prison because he was too short. I am still wondering how tall the 12 year old girl was.

Maybe, the man did it cause he is evil. That is bout the only motive for such a senseless crime. He will get a life sentence, but at least he will get 3 meals and a bed.Or a year of probation, it depends on the judge. I wittinessed Durham sentencing a 6 time D. U.I. to 6 mo. in jail.He got out in 3 mo,s.because he was 80 yrs. old,and he promised the judge that he would not drink and drive again. If an old friend can walk away from a manditory 5 yr. sentence with 3 mo,s. then that aint justice.Equal justice is the only way it can work.Age is not an excuse for murder or drunk driving. This man was 5 times the legal limit, caused an accident,in which no one was hurt ,thank God.He didn't have a liscense at the time ,so he didn't even loose his driving privilage.Makes me sick!WE HAVE A JUDGE THAT IS THAT STUPID!!!!!!!!!please get me started.MM.

Has anyone stopped to think that maybe the 83 year old man might have a medical condition that caused him to have a temporary lapse in judgement? How often do you hear of an 83 year old being arrested for the murder of another 80 year+ person? Don't know about you but I don't recall any recently....

I don't know if this report is true or not, but with the punch line, I just had to post it.

Southern Justice....

Another case of underestimating the ammor requirements.
As reported earlier this
week, some dirt bag who got pulled over in a routine traffic
stop in Florida
ended up "executing" the deputy who stopped him.
The deputy was shot eight
times, including once behind his
right ear at close range. Another deputy was wounded and a
police dog killed.

A statewide manhunt ensued. The low-life piece of human
garbage was found
hiding in a wooded area with his gun. SWAT team officers fired
and hit said
low-life 68 times. Now here's the kicker: Asked why they shot
the guy 68 times,
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd told the Orlando Sentinel...get
this."That's all
the bullets we had."

Well folks, I have made a happy return. I have been keeping up with most of you, but was sorta in a state of shock to see the new format and most of all new faces, names and agendas!
News Bulletin from WRGA and RNT........ 83 year old man arrested for the murder of" Nib" Hyde . I had been following this and hoping they would catch the culprit. I understand from friends that they attended church together. They were friends, I am told and ate out a lot together. Very interesting to find out the motive of such a hideous crime to such a nice lady. Recall seeing her on Saturdays ringing the bell at the Salvation Army..... beautiful elderly lady....... did not look 80.
Well so much for my opinion, information and such..... as usual. Ima D.

Just wanted to say CONGRATULATIONS to the LaFayette Rambler Wrestling team for winning first place in Class AA. Whoo Hoo! It is nice to see something nice written in the paper for a change. Too bad that there isn't a topic on here to post a comment under.

Those kids really worked hard. They gave it their all and it is apparent that all of that hard work paid off. A special thanks needs to go out to Will and Lee Dendy. They give tirelessly (for no pay) of themselves for the LaFayette Wrestlers in all age groups.

what really confuses me is that both the second ave. bridge and the 5th ave. bridge have walkways on each side with sidewalks that led into and away from downtown that are handicap accessible. why did they think that we needed another span across the river? i mean come on, of all the things that the money could have been better used for this project should have been the last on the list. they must really enjoy wasting other peoples money a whole lot. bet they would not have spent it if it all came out of their pockets. just goes to show....a mind is a terrible thing to waste! i say go ahead and let them put their names on this bridge so everyone will remember who the numbskulls were that wasted the money on it.

Any body want an apple? This one is on the FDA website.

Dole Cantaloupe Recall Information

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, CA -- Dole Fresh Fruit Company announced the recall of cantaloupes in the Eastern U.S. and Quebec due to potential health concerns. Some cantaloupes packed on January 25, 26 and 27, 2007 by an independent, third-party grower in Costa Rica have tested positive for Salmonella. Although no illnesses have been reported, Dole voluntarily has decided to recall all cantaloupes imported from Costa Rica and packed by that grower.

Persons infected with Salmonella may experience a variety of symptoms and illnesses. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in more severe illnesses and potentially can be fatal.

Approximately 6,104 cartons of cantaloupes were distributed to wholesalers in regions of the eastern United States and Quebec between February 5 and February 8, 2007. The cantaloupes have a light green color skin on the exterior, with orange flesh. The cantaloupes were distributed for sale in bulk in cardboard cartons, with 9, 12 or 15 cantaloupes to a carton. The recalled cartons are dark brown with "Dole Cantaloupes" in red lettering. They have a thirteen-digit number on a white tag pasted to the carton; the tenth digit is a 2

Good morning! I have to run but thought I'd start my day by passing this along:

Three guys -- a Canadian farmer, Osama bin Laden, and an American engineer are walking together one day. They come across a lantern and a Genie pops out of it.

"I will give each of you one wish, which is three wishes total" says the Genie.

The Canadian says, "I am a farmer, my dad was a farmer, and my son will also farm. I want the land to be forever fertile in Canada."

Pooooof! With a blink of the Genie's eye, the land in Canada was forever made fertile for farming.

Osama bin Laden was amazed, so he said, "I want an impenetrable wall around Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, and Syria with all believers of Mohammad inside and all Jews, Americans, and other infidel forever outside our precious state."

Pooooof! Again, with the blink of the Genie's eye, there was a huge wall around those countries.

The American engineer asks, "I am very curious. Please tell me more about this wall".

The Genie explains, "Well, it's 5000 feet high, 500 feet thick and completely surrounds these countries..... it's virtually impenetrable. Now what is your wish?"

The American engineer smiles and says, "Fill it with water."

Pooooof!

Mommie2,
STEP AWAY FROM THE WATER COOLER, PUT YOUR HANDS ABOVE YOUR HEAD, NOW SWEAR, YOU WILL TELL NO ONE THAT TWINKIE REMEMBERS IT ALL.
I love it, but truthfully, I feel quite blessed to have a memory. The fact that I'm older than Kerosene and still remember James Dean, The Ink Spots, Brenda Lee, Deon and the Belmont's, The Everly Brothers, Bobby Sox, Spinner hubcaps, Suicide knobs, duck tail hair cuts, Saddle Oxfords, Circle tail skirts, and penny loafers, doesn't make me feel anything but good. I also remember driving from Chattanooga to Atlanta, just to get a Varsity hot dog and onion rings.
Thanks for the memories.

Twinkie you are so right laughter is the best medicine. Thanks for sharing your humor. Hope all of your family is feeling better.

Yes, many accidents can be prevented, but we just don't always think and we can't always react quick enough. I just think society needs to not be so quick to point fingers and to judge someone when a child is hurt or dies.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.
I would like to thank the accadamy and all those who voted for me. I also would like to thank my 4 chihuahua's, my cat, and my producer. Oh, I don't have a producer, sorry!

mm, sometimes when I feel down in the dumps as you know I have lately with everyone being sick, that is when I seek out something to laugh at. They say laughter is the best medicine and I truly believe that. I'm so glad you didn't crawl in a cave because I am not a good spelunker and probably would never have found you. Any time I hear or read a good joke, I love to share them. One of our favorite past times when my brothers and sister and I were teenagers, was sitting around the kitchen table with my mother and Stepdad telling jokes.
One of my favorites from that time was "how do you catch a polar bear? You go to the polar region where they hang out, you find a frozen pond or lake, you cut a hole in the ice, you sprinkle peas around the hole. When the polar bear comes to take a pea, you kick him in the ice hole." I know, I know, it is silly but I still find it funny.

Maggie, there are preventative measures to help stop accidents but you are right, not all accidents can be prevented. The sad part is after one happens, we usually can think of a million ways we could have prevented it.

I heard from a friend today, that yesterday a six month old baby fell out of his car seat which was on top of the counter at Richards Restaurant in Ringgold. Apparently the grandmother had the baby and did not have him strapped in and he managed to wiggle and flip the seat over. The grandmother and the owner of the restaurant both tried to grab the baby, but were unsucessful and he hit the floor face first. I don't know the extent of the injuries, but I believe they called an ambulance. Hope all those in Catoosa County who don't think that accidents happen to children will realize that they do.

FIVE BEST THINGS TO SAY IF YOU GET CAUGHT SLEEPING AT YOUR DESK:

5. "They told me at the Blood Bank this might happen."

4. "This is just a 15 minute power nap they raved about in the time management course you sent me to."

3. "Whew! Guess I left the top off the Whiteout. You probably got here just in time."

2. "Did you ever notice sound coming out of these keyboards when you put your ear down real close?"

And the NUMBER ONE best thing to say if you get caught sleeping at your desk...

1. Raise your head slowly and say, "...in Jesus' name, Amen."

I heard on the news that the problem with the peanut butter had been going on since August, why did it take so long to get a recall. It should have been pulled from the shelves long before now. My father bought some just last Wed. hasn't gotten sick, but the incubation period is not over. This is not a third world country, surely we can do better than this with being sanitary in our manufacturing plants!!!!!!

Twinkie, I think I'd feel like giving up all but home-made food too. I just never thought about peanut butter...

I wouldn't mind a pretty snow on the weekend, just as long as it was cleared by Monday. We picked up a fireplace popcorn popper today to use when the little ones are here. I could curl up in front of the fireplace with a good book, some popcorn and a big cup of homemade hot cocoa.

According to the CDC website, 3,142 people have died from food & water borne illness in the past year. Gee Guys, I wonder how much nutrition is in the grass in my front yard. OOP'S, I forgot, that's where my dogs go. Perhaps the tree bark might be safe if I get up high enough on the tree.

Georgia Dept. finds contamination in Oscar Mayer chicken strips
Associated Press
ATLANTA - Food scientists with the Georgia Department of Agriculture have found contaminated chicken strips in Oscar Mayer ready to eat chicken breast strips with rib meat, Agriculture Commissioner Tommy Irvin said Saturday.

The contamination was found in a six-ounce packaged sample marked as grilled fully cooked and ready to eat with a code use by 19 Apr 2007 18:35D, Irvin said. Each package bears the establishment number 19676 inside the USDA mark of inspection.

Irvin said his scientists found Listeria monocytogenes in the sample. Food so contaminated can cause listeriosis, an uncommon but potentially serious disease, Irvin said.

The most common manifestation of listeriosis is meningitis, which has symptoms of high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea. Listeriosis can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths, as well as serious and sometimes fatal infections to infants, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems such as persons with chronic diseases or taking chemotherapy for cancer.

"We have notified the U.S. Department of Agriculture of today's lab findings and that we would be warning the public about the discovery," Irvin said. "Sampling on a regular basis with a scientific protocol is a very important part of our food safety program."

If a young man combs his hair to one side it is called a "part", if an older man combs his hair to one side it is called a "comb over".
