Just threw some of that PB out yesterday with the numbers 2111. I know we have had it for a month or more. Can't remember if anyone got sick. Probably just thought it was a bug.

I want to know why they waited so long to do the recall. My father bought some peanut butter yesterday and he ate some today, before hearing about the recall. Hopefully he won't get sick, but according to what they have said, it can take some time to make you sick. Thankfully, I eat Jiff!!!

I has been about 3 weeks and we still have not completely recovered. It feels like we were kicked in the stomach by a Missouri Mule. I don't know that it was the Peanut butter but we returned ours today for a refund, I'd rather error on the side of caution. As I said before, the little ones were all over their dad and they didn't get it and they didn't eat that peanut butter. I guess now we just wait and see, the article said not all of it was contaminated and they are still investigating to find out how it got there.
Big Shiggy, I worked for 5 years in a large local bakery. They do have quality assurance people that are constantly checking what is being run on every line and the food handlers have to keep their hands clean, wear gloves, etc. However, not everything can be seen with the necked eye. Even so, I'm with you on the homegrown food, that is why we are trying to get this farm going.
Bert, you get agreement from me on the fog lights too. When they hit the rear view it blinds you.
AnnT, I'm glad you found the peanut butter, even if it is not contaminated, it is better to get rid of it then to take a chance on eating it and perhaps having a recurrence.
I'm off to bed now, good night everyone and pleasant dreams.

bert57,

Back when I was working for a chassis upfitter in Chattanooga, we had to label the fog lights switch "driving lights", to pass DOT (Department of Transportation) certification for continuous use.

That's about the same time "daytime running lights" came out as an added safety measure.
The foglights/driving lights have to be wired into a relay (high beam interruption) so when the high beams are turned on, the fog/running lights go out.

I know what you mean by using these lights only when needed, 55 and 100 watt fog/driving lights are some high candle power bulbs. Those HID (high intensity discharge) lights on the newer vehicles are quite blinding even when on low beam. Then you have the drivers who refuse to dim their high beam lights cause they have some sort of vision or courtesy problem.

The drivers who really get under my skin are those who drive so close you can't even see their headlights in your rear view mirror.

hi yall!, all the guys at work have all been sick with that BUG that has been going around along with everyone in their families and guess what? they all came in this morning talking about that peanut butter deal and they all had the same brands and all had the same code numbers on the jars! man this is scary! it could haver been a whole lot worse too. one guys wife even went to the doctor and was told that it was just a virus and that she would get over it in a few days! no tests run or anything. i work with these folks in a shop enviroment every day and had been afraid that i was next on this viruses list( knock on wood) but i dont eat peanut butter so i hope that maybe, just maybe it wasn't a bug after all ! with all the processed foods that we eat it's a wonder that this type of thing dont happen more often. hope everyone is feeling better. next.... on the way home tonight i was reminded of one of my pet peeves. some jerk behind me with those blasted fog lights on and the night clear as a bell. those things are so annoying. people that ride with those things on all the time have no respect for others in front who have to put up with them glaring in the rear view mirrors. i know that they help at night when it is foggy but paleeze. give us a break when there is no need for you to have them on. even when you are coming straight at us they are blinding. have a little respect for others and turn them off when they are not needed. makes me want to put a row of spotlights across the roof of my vehicle just to blast back at em when i am confronted with ignorant drivers who insist on burning them all the time.

Twinkie, after reading your post I went and looked in my cabinet and found a jar of peanut butter with the numbers beginning 2111...we had eaten out of it a week or two ago and all of us have been sick, but who knows if it was because of that or not. Thanks for the info! I wouldn't have found it (or at least not so soon) if it weren't for you.

Twinkie,

I did find some GV Peanut Butter in my emergency food stockpile but it has the code A21-21 on it.
We usually only buy Jif, like the choosy moms do. We have found it is cheaper than that Walt Disney character brand at our W-mart.
I have been inside several food plants and got to see first hand what really goes on in there.
Makes me want to eat homegrown food only.

jabber,

I think they are huddled under their blankets until spring, when temps rise above the 90's we will hear them start complaining about global warming again.
Amazing that we can have record cold temps in a time of global warming.
Is Al Gore staying warm?, I hope so.....

For those of you who have not read or heard of the ReCall on Peter Pan and Great Value Peanut Butter with the starting numbers 2111 on the lid, here's a heads up. As you know, the adults in my household have all been extremely ill with vomiting, stomach cramps, etc. The little guys , even though they were all over their daddy trying to take care of him, did not get it. My daughter-in-law in Atlanta had told me they all had it about the same time we did and we had not been around each other. We thought it was a Virus but now, it seems it may have been the peanut butter. I called the daughter-in-law this morning and she said, yes they ate a lot of peanut butter and Peter Pan was the only brand she bought. I had 1&1/2 jars in the pantry of the Peter Pan Crunchy. The little ones only like the smooth and I was finishing off a different brand of the smooth for them. All the PB&J sandwiches they eat, I'm glad I didn't give them the PeterPan. I called the grocery store where I bought them and they had already heard the report and have pulled it all from their shelves.

if i never see another flake of snow for the rest of my days it will be just fine with me! seeing others go thru the snow ordeal makes me even happier that i live in the good ol' south! it may get cold, but at least it's not snowing four months out of the year. i never heard of this until yesterday but the great lakes provide most of the moisture that produces snow in the northern states and the therory is that due to the warming of the earth the melting of the ice in the canadian regions is actually raising the lake levels which are feeding more moisture into the atmosphere and causing the increase in snow this year. just repeating what i heard on the tube yesterday.

brian1222, I removed your multiple posts. When you go into edit the comment (which is where the option to remove them can be found) double check that you A) remove all the text out of the comment you want to remove, as instructed and B) don't have caplocks on or else it won't take your password.

Also, when you submit a comment you don't need to refresh the page to see it and, at the moment at least, if you refresh it will post the comment again. Clicking 'submit comment' more than once can also cause this. These problems are being looked into but it could be a short while before they are resolved.

i agree with you shiggy, why does a child have to be subjected to the second hand smoke inside a closed up vehicle? i have seen this occuring numerous times during commutes. i myself used to be a smoker until 1981. and the reason i stopped ws my daugter was caught digging into the ashtray and eating the butts! it was like a slap in the face that brought me to my senses. i said then that my child was not going to be sickened by something that i was doing. and so i quit cold turkey after smoking 1 to 2 packs a day for many years. if a person wants to quit, they will. if they want to smoke they should not do it where a child will be forced to inhale their smoke. it is just not right. it should be illegal to smoke in a vehicle with a child present. that is a no brainer! as much as i value a persons rights to do as they please with their own selves, a childs rights should take priority. if they dont have enough sense to do what is right then someone should jerk a knot in their butts and penalize them for it! hit them hard too! just the same as no car seats or driving while intoxicated with a child. what is the difference? a child is still in danger of being harmed. maybe someone reading this has the ability to make this into law. lets hope for the childrens sake that it will come soon. like it has been said before... stupid people should not breed!

Found out the trick to it, the caps lock must be on when typing in your password in the edit comments section.
I edited the double post from earlier.

I read in the TFP (Times Free Press) about a Chattanooga, Tennessee lawmaker, State Rep. Richard Floyd-R Chattanooga, who has proposed making it illegal to smoke inside a vehicle in which a child is a passenger. Arkansas, Puerto Rico, Louisiana and Bangor, Maine have recently passed laws making it a crime to do so. Several states including West Virginia and South Carolina are also considering the same laws.

I have experienced a hostile family member who I didn't allow to smoke in my vehicle on an 8 hour road trip, our child less than 2 years old, was riding with us.
I did stop every 1 1/2 to 2 hours to let them inhale.

Amazing to me that some smokers can sleep for 8 hours plus and not smoke, but while awake they must have a cigarette in their mouth constantly.

Those on goverment assistance shouldn't be allowed to smoke or drink alcohol, unless taxpayers like paying for medical health problems related to smoking and drinking alcohol. I doesn't matter though, because if we did reduce the medical bills for the government assisted by this type of restriction, government would find other needs for that tax money.

Another accident on Hyw. 151. I was in the traffic backup Sunday afternoon about 2:00PM. I didn't get to see what happened, but from the looks of the painted marks on the road, someone pulled out onto 151 from Alton Rd. or one of the driveways thereabouts. Did you hear anything maggie?

Not lost yet MM.

Heres a couple of Heads up for Veterans:
Veterans face budget cuts after increase next year

WASHINGTON -- The Bush administration plans to cut funding for veterans' health care two years from now -- even as badly wounded troops returning from Iraq could overwhelm the system.

Bush is using the cuts, critics say, to help fulfill his pledge to balance the budget by 2012.

After an increase sought for next year, the Bush budget would turn current trends on their head. Even though the cost of providing medical care to veterans has been growing rapidly -- by more than 10 percent in many years -- White House budget documents assume consecutive cutbacks in 2009 and 2010 and a freeze thereafter.

VA Notifying 1.8M of Missing Data

Published: 2/12/07, 7:45 PM EDT
By JAY REEVES

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.(AP)- The Department of Veterans Affairs began notifying 1.8 million veterans and doctors Monday that their personal and business information could be on a portable hard drive that has been missing from an Alabama hospital for nearly three weeks.

The hard drive may have contained Social Security numbers and other personal information from about 535,000 individuals and billing information on 1.3 million doctors nationwide, the VA said. That's more than 37 times more people than authorities initially believed were affected.

An employee at the VA medical center in Birmingham reported the external hard drive missing on Jan. 22. The drive was used to back up information on the employee's office computer. It may have contained data from research projects, the department said.

U.S. Rep. Artur Davis questioned why it took the agency so long to begin sending out notification letters."I certainly understand that the VA wanted to get a handle on the facts. But it became very apparent very early on that they had a breach of security," said Davis, a Democrat from Birmingham.

Veterans Affairs officials said they were moving as quickly as they could."We are providing information as we learn it from an investigation," said spokesman Matt Burns in Washington.

The VA first publicly revealed the equipment was missing 11 days after it was reported, saying then that personal information on as many as 48,000 veterans may have been stolen.

The VA said Monday it doesn't have any reason to believe anyone has misused data from the hard drive, which is also at the center of a criminal investigation. The agency offered a year of free credit monitoring to anyone whose information is compromised.

Davis said the department told him that the missing storage unit included the Social Security numbers and names of about 10,000 people, plus another 525,000 Social Security numbers. The information on doctors includes names and Medicare billing codes, he said.

Last year, a VA executive stepped down from his job and a data analyst was fired after the agency failed to immediately reveal the theft of a laptop computer and disks that contained personal information on 26.5 million veterans.

One of the scripts running on the page could be causing that, thought it's hard to say for certain. It could depend on what browser you're running (internet explorer, firefox, opera, etc.)

As for the crematory article, there are two currently on SoundOff and it doesn't look like comments are missing from either as far as I can tell:

http://www1.romenews-tribune.com/soundoff/blog/616/
http://www1.romenews-tribune.com/soundoff/blog/614/

Let me know if anything else comes up. That goes for anyone else out there as well.

I just went to the tri-state crematory article and could only bring up two of the comments. I am also finding that my hourglass keeps blinking, is this something you can fix? I'm logging off now but will check back later. I've never talked with a moderator before so it has been interesting. Best of luck with the new look.

I can easily adjust the filters if and when need be, but if you want to change your comment you can edit it using the 'edit comment' link above it on the same page you go to post it. The link should show up above the timestamp for that comment.

It wasn't so much the word, but another word that the filters caught. If you take the 'gl' off that word, you'll see why it got filtered. Should be fixed now, that all us glasses-wears won't be oddly censored.
