bert.....here, officers have wide discretion to arrest anyone (there is good points and bad points to that policy). The good point is that the higher-ups can't protect their buddies, or people in high positions, etc.....the bad point is that idiot cops can arrest people for things that should not be arrestable. From all the news reports I've read on the salty burger, it seems that this officer screwed up. That never happened to me, but it would make sense to me, if I was the victim of a crime, while a police officer (nto including things like people assaulting you on duty, etc), but just say someone knocked down my mailbox........I'd like another officer to investigate and arrest, just so there's no cry of retaliation when it goes to court.I've heard of something similar happening in rome a long time ago, but I wasn't working then so this is only third party information. Supposedly an officer went to a local fast food establishment and got his food. An employee as the fast food place called 911 and told them that she had witnessed the person who made the burger (or whatever it was) talking about the burger was a "police special" and spitting on it, wiping it on the floor, among other things....................911 gave this info to the officer who immediately said he would be enroute to the restaurant....Luckily, he was beat there by the supervisor, who inspected the food, took the witness statement and arrested the employee. I have no evidence of this, but I wonder if he saw dollar signs, and figured an arrest would make a lawsuit more winnable. |

hi maggie, yes that is really sad. i cant understand, if it was too salty, why did the guy keep eating it? seems like he should be checked to see if he has enough sense to be an officer! if it was deliberate then yes, take them to jail. but if it was a mistake then the officer is just as much to blame for the bellyache for keeping on eating it. i bet he gets that asked to him a lot. looks like he would have had to check in with a supervisor before making an arrest like this. how about it romegasir? what is the protocol on stuff like this? |

stevie...I hope the first question is answered YES, the second NO and the others, gimme a break. Out of all the injustices occurring across the world, it's refreshing to see that you've chosen the protection of child molesters as your mission. |

Denial of Justice? Is hostility toward suspected pedophiles so severe that prosecutors exhibit excessive zeal and defense attorneys don't bother to defend their client? Will juries convict regardless of inconclusive evidence? For persons accused of sex offenses, is it guilty unless proven innocent beyond a reasonable doubt? If so, there is a systematic denial of justice for those charged. But this is pretty standard practice in many other states. http://wcco.com/local/local_story_179174853.html Do we want to keep pedophiles in prison for life? Quotes from ChildRight Worldwide - The Victim Child: "Parker Rossman, an expert in homosexual paedophilia, estimates the number of active gay-paedophiles at more than half a million all over the world. Apparently one out of eight men sometimes gets sexually excited about young boys." "According to a study by Briere and Runtz in the USA, of the 193 male students questioned, 21% have been sexually aroused by young children once or twice. 9% of the students said to have fantasies about sex with children sometimes, and 7% indicated to be interested in sex with children if there would be no risk of being arrested." If you try to put all these folks in jail on top of all those imprisoned for other reasons, we're going to have a society composed of only two groups, prisoners and prison guards. So right B-1222, and so sad! Maggie, you are so dependable. If it is visible ,you see it.The masses don't even care. They don't realize that prison is pure hell.I t is for hardcore lawbreaking criminals. Not for people on there way home from a hard day at work. Can you imagine the hell Matt has gone thru in the last 3 yrs. If he was at fault in that wreck, then I am the Pope.Flawed is putting it lightly.Run-a-muck might say it better.Irealy don't know what to do anymore.Iam totaly dedicated in my resolve. It is like trying to tear down a concrete wall with a ball pointpen.Thank-you Bic for your multi-pacs. |

Our justice system is so flawed. It boggles the mind at how some people get the book thrown at them and others get a slap on the wrist. It is also frightening how many innocent people go to prison. Something I didn't know, is that you can be arrested in Georiga and they can hold you for years without ever formally charging you. |

Can someone please explain to me why a person who has admitted committing fetuscide can walk away with no charges, but a person on state probation can be sentenced to serve 6 year sentence based purely on circumstantial evidence? |

I appreciate the information given here in answer to my question concerning Christina Connelly. Rumors are still circulating where I work including one about a gag order. Anything to give credit to their story I suppose. Thanks again for the reassuring information! |

Brian, I have been very busy and I was just spending too much time and energy here. This can be very addictive and I just needed a break. It didn't have anything to do with anyone here. I've been keeping up somewhat with everything. But as we all know, reading and posting are two different things. The latter can be very time consuming and even emotional. I think that we all have to remember that as much as we grow to like our fellow bloggers, we don't really know each other. A person can be anyone they want on a blog. Apparently Mr. Craton showed us that. So you have no more reason to apologize than I. If I get too involved in this again, I'll take another break. |

I've just got to jump back in here for a little while. I peek in from time to time but apparently I missed something good. These posts cut off after so many even in the separate categories and all that I could gather was that lovetoblog exposed himself as Craton. Someone fill me in. |

Just a terrible rumor that even the GBI has dispelled. It was on hometownheadlines.com last night. She is taking some time off as could be expected; I personally saw Mr. Cook yesterday and talked to him extensively. |

Anyone have any news about the death of Branch Connelly, the husband of Christina Cook Connelly? I heard she has been arrested and charged with murder but I have not seen anything about it on the news. Is this just a rumor or is there any truth behind it? |

The Cameron Jesus documentary is a joke. The Isreali/Canadian archeologist who is the primary "scientist" in the show is featured in "The Naked Archeologist" on the History Channel. If you've ever watched that show, you'd see that the experts he interviews constantly argue with him for making unwarrented extrapolations from the data. This is another one of those outlandish extrapolations. Cameron just wants to make a buck off of it.Archeology that threatens Christianity has become a fad in the media ever since the equally ridiculous "Da Vinci Code". What's sad is that there is a short ton of legit archeological evidence that challenge the Bible, but you never hear about that. |

On ABC World News tonight, Charles Gibson was talking to the head of Emergency Management in Enterprise, Al. where a destructive tornado touched down this morning. He questioned the decision not to send students home and and the man he was questioning put it right back to him, it was a matter of keeping them in the relative safety of a building or having 100's of kids on school buses out in the storm. The media need to get over themselves. It is not fair to always second guess what people do when faced with split second decisions. Tornados aren't like hurricanes, where you know for days they are coming or even snowstorms where you can predict well ahead of time. Yes, it was said that there was potential for severe storms, but as we well know here in the south, if we closed schools everytime there was the potential for severe storms, the kids would miss a lot of days. Also, no one can predict the path of a tornado, they have a mind of their own. If they had made the decision to send students home and school buses had been blown away, then the media would be on them for sending them home. Sometimes you just can't win, no matter what you do. |

The breaking news about the lawsuit is on the RNT now. The business owner is Craton - the adult store owner. I wonder if he sues everybody/everything about everybody/everything? Some people really like doing that sort of stuff. Wonder what his background, childhood, etc. was actually like. I'm only curious for the sake of how he got from then to now. |

Did you read that the state of Virginia has apologized for their role in slavery? Might be a good move for Georgia to follow suit. Here is the article:RICHMOND, Va. - Meeting on the grounds of the former Confederate Capitol, the Virginia General Assembly voted unanimously Saturday to express "profound regret" for the state's role in slavery. Sponsors of the resolution say they know of no other state that has apologized for slavery, although Missouri lawmakers are considering such a measure. The resolution does not carry the weight of law but sends an important symbolic message, supporters said. "This session will be remembered for a lot of things, but 20 years hence I suspect one of those things will be the fact that we came together and passed this resolution," said Delegate A. Donald McEachin, a Democrat who sponsored it in the House of Delegates. The resolution passed the House 96-0 and cleared the 40-member Senate on a unanimous voice vote. It does not require Gov. Timothy M. Kaine's approval. The measure also expressed regret for "the exploitation of Native Americans." The resolution was introduced as Virginia begins its celebration of the 400th anniversary of Jamestown, where the first Africans arrived in 1619. Richmond, home to a popular boulevard lined with statues of Confederate heroes, later became another point of arrival for Africans and a slave-trade hub. The resolution says government-sanctioned slavery "ranks as the most horrendous of all depredations of human rights and violations of our founding ideals in our nation's history, and the abolition of slavery was followed by systematic discrimination, enforced segregation, and other insidious institutions and practices toward Americans of African descent that were rooted in racism, racial bias, and racial misunderstanding." In Virginia, black voter turnout was suppressed with a poll tax and literacy tests before those practices were struck down by federal courts, and state leaders responded to federally ordered school desegregation with a "Massive Resistance" movement in the 1950s and early '60s. Some communities created exclusive whites-only schools. The apology is the latest in a series of strides Virginia has made in overcoming its segregationist past. Virginia was the first state to elect a black governor _ L. Douglas Wilder in 1989 _ and the Legislature took a step toward atoning for Massive Resistance in 2004 by creating a scholarship fund for blacks whose schools were shut down between 1954 and 1964. Among those voting for the measure was Delegate Frank D. Hargrove, an 80-year-old Republican who infuriated black leaders last month by saying "black citizens should get over" slavery. After enduring a barrage of criticism, Hargrove successfully co-sponsored a resolution calling on Virginia to celebrate "Juneteenth," a holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. |

I am responding to the Nib Hyde/Albert Bennett case, I would like to start by sending out my deepest sympathy to the Hyde family. I would also like to express my concern for the Bennett family, remember a person is innocent until proven guilty and for goodness sake he is some body's daddy, grandpa, uncle, and brother. I would also like to respond to the article in The Rome News Tribune where Mildred Bennett (Nib's 88 year old sister-in-law) was quoted saying "things came to a head on Nov. 31, 2006, when Hyde told Albert Bennett she no longer wanted to see him....... this statement cannot possibly be true because November only has 30 days in it!!!!!!!!!! Also, Mildred Bennett said that she first met Hyde in 1927 (if Hyde was 80 years old at the time of her death then she could not have been but 1 year old in 1927) when Mildred married Hyde's brother. If Mildred Bennett is 88 years old now, she must have gotten married at the ripe old age of 8, yes 8 (eight)!!!!!Oh and one more thing, Mildred Bennett was also quoted in this particular article saying about Hyde "She was a good person. If she liked you, she'd do anything in the world for you. Just something to think about what if she did not like you?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?? |

This response is to MM I just wanted to tell you that a person's age can cause disturbances in their physical and MENTAL health and this does NOT mean that they are evil! I had a grandmother who was a very precious lady die of alzheimer's. This disease totally took her away from us and replaced her with a total stranger that had to have total supervision 24/7. Evidentaly you have never had to be a caretaker of an elderly person as I have or you would know just what age and sickness can do to a person! I hope you never have to deal with this. And by the way how many people do you know that live to be 83, anyway? |

On the local news this week, the authorities in Hamilton County took 9 1/2 months to charge two people in the death of a toddler. Both the baby's mother and her boy friend have been charged. Seems to me they have done a thorough investigagtion and did not rush to charge someone falsely, unlike what they do here in Catoosa County. I applaud them for not reacting emotionally and for making sure before they charged them. |

While watching Fox News on the Pelosi airplane, they stated it cost 15 million to keep the plane she wants running for a year. They said it included wages, gas, upkeep and on and on. That is hard to believe but that is what they said. I would like to read that somewhere because that is just unreal. If that is true, then all I have to say to Nancy is HOW DARE YOU! Is this how she will take care of America? |

I was appalled by the news out of Az, the killing of innocent people is horrible. I hope that Az has the guts to seriously look for and prosecute the guilty parties. Their race and country of origin should have no basis on the situation. |

And I suppose she wanted the bigger one to make up for areas where she comes up short. The Pentagon let her know which one she would be flying in though. I bet she thought we taxpayers wouldn't mind paying for her to fly in the bigger jet. Have you noticed how she gets into every speech she gives, that she "speaks for all of America". She will say all of America spoke and she was listening. She didn't hear what I said. |

WOW! Can't believe all of this news happening today. First the school bus wreck in Catoosa County: then two train wrecks in Ala:The Harper hearings: WRGA saying they have a person of interest in the" Nib" Hyde case , hope they can him/her (sure miss her as a voulunteer at the Salvation Army) then........ Whammo! Anna Nicole Smith is dead at age 39. Can you all believe such goings on in one day! Then to top it off, get a weather alert that there is a possibility of sleet/freezing rain for Friday.... so now am doing the same old preps here in the "pocket" for bad weather. This time I have a battery operated t.v. in case the electricity "konks out"... so I can see what is going on. My laptop is battery operated so guess if the phones stay intact can still get online! Re: MM. post. yep, have to agree about Cocky Cox. Everytime I see him, he is out eating.... alone..... guess he is drowning his misery with food.... that's what it appears..... if I were him..... suppose I would do the same. Well, so much for the banter. Have a good one and keep the home fires burning and keep warm! Justan opinion, observation and comment as usual! Ima "D". |

They want bigger and better.Cox is getting bigger every day.He eats like a pig,so its told.It is the only way he can deal with his guilty consence. He is in a size 48 pants, but his gut is so round that he needs suspenders to hold up the weight of that much fabric. He knew the truth, but in his on words:the Bendicks are the nicest people I've ever worked for.We thought he worked for the state of Ga. Oh Maggie,Matt is still alive as far as we know.He calls from time to time.He is sure that justice will come soon and he can come home and get his life back.Keep praying ! thanks ,MM. |

Brian, You have hit the nail on the head. They are not really interested in justice, just making names for themselves in the hopes of bigger and better things. |

MM, it is so scary, when you know how the system really works and the lies that are told to get someone indicted. I shudder to think what they say and do in order to get the grand jury to indict. By the way, how is Matt and what is going on in his case?? |

So sorry B-1.I will pray for your family also. In matt's case they went before 4 grand-jurys before the D.A.got the inditment. They lied to the jury to get it.Wreckless driving was added to the charges because a wittness said that he accelerated from 62 to 80 mph.in the intersection.Keep in mind he was driving a 12'000 lbs. 6 speed deisel truck. The D.A. KNEW IT WAS NOT POSSIBLE.But the g.jury bought it.They are the lowest form of liars.Maybe they will be the next ones to make the news. |

On the news this morning, on GMA, two of the grand jurors in the Duke case were interviewed and one of them said, if they had been given all of the info, instead of what the DA wanted them to hear, he wouldn't have voted to indict. The other one also felt differently after all that has come to light in this case. This is just another case in point that it is not right that grand juries only hear a biased version of a case from the DA. How many innocent people have been indicted, because the DA can go before a grand jury and say anything he wants to and even lie? I think it is time to change how a case is presented to the grand jury. |

Strangly enough, I remember my one grandmother that drove a car, saying that she wouldn't buy that old Citgo gasoline because her car didn't run right on it. I have always avoided Citgo for that reason and when I read last year who the owner was, it just reinforced my determination not to buy that brand. At todays prices, we all may need to get a horse and buggy. |

we can only hope that it is only a matter of time before chavez self destructs. those people cant be total dummies. there are already talk of an uprising in the works. he has already made some angry at the way he is taking over everything. the wealthy will not stand by for long and let him take what is theirs. money provides a means of making changes when needed. i think that is is highly possible that if he dont settle down someone will attempt an assaination. even the ones with less income will be affected by his tactics. lets just hope that he dont succede in starting a conflict that will drag us into another mess. everyone remember to say your prayers! |
