Romelistener has been drinking the cool aid from his dads mug again, I see. Nice. Either for raping Rome, or against it. No wait, that's not it, what did he say again? |

Will this bridge make it safer to travelin floyd co.2.4 MILLION is a very large sum when you consider the fact that 200,000 could have fixed the intersection at Burlington and 53. In 1999 the state recomened to Floyd Co. that they should spend this small amount to fix the problems at this intersection.Floyd Co. said they didn't have the money.Three lives and hundreds of broken hearts not to mention the money spent in court. The state took over and completely rebuilt the intersection.Maby,if enough people try to cross the river with out the bridge, and drownd. The state will give Floyd the money. |

Maybe we should have looked into a way to "redo" the old train trussel at Ridge Ferry Park to give access to the park or to the levee area instead of a bridge to "some new development" that might happen and might not |

Well great, another 2 million and some change thrown away. Im sure when this thing opens all kinds of people will walk across it just to say they did. After a few months it will be nothing more than a place for punks to spray paint and people to hide under to sleep and smoke dope. But look on the bright side, im sure there will be a nice big plaque with all the names of commissioners, the mayor, and city manager bragging about what a great job theyve done. I think it should read "look at how we threw your money away". And to top it off, i bet the "mayor" graces it with his name. Ill refuse to walk on it. |

That's right RomeListener...The job opportunities that if provides for out-of-county and even out-of-state companies like the one from OPELIKA, AL. I would like to know how many LOCAL contractors they will be using for this project...Does anyone know? Has anyone ever considered some more creative ways of generating revenue other than a SPLOST? The SPLOST has become an easy way out...Why do we still have $$$ available from the 95 SPLOST account...Just maybe some promises of projects were not carried thru with...Hmmm |

You either are for this community or you are against it. You either vote for the SPLOST and the economic and job opportunities it provides or you vote against it and make a cjoice that you want this community to crumble and fall apart. You can't support this community if you vote against SPLOST. It's that simple. |

This bridge is just a way for our elected officals to show off (look what we did!!) not to actually acomplish anything for the people of this county ..“I have to agree about The Forum, but that’s what we inherited,” said Hufstetler.. Inherited.. so this is how it is.. when the commisioners spend money and things dont work as they should and aren't viable money makers.. It makes it seem like its the taxpayers fault and problem when they dont really think things through and put buildings and an area where as any blind fool could have seen there would be NO PARKING for but hey we elected them.. I want to know where i can get one of the NO SPLOST bumper stickers so i can show everyone just exactly what i am going to vote.. What else could we expect from the Rec. department director than to take care of himself and his family Lets just all get out there and tell them what we think when it comes time to vote!!! |

I hope that it was decided at the meeting to only spend 1.2 million and only build half a bridge. That way we could call it a pier and charge people to fish off of it to raise money for the other half of the bridge, that right now would lead to nowhere. Reminds me of the movie "Field of Dreams"...build it and they will come |

Great, I can't wait to use the new bridge...what maybe once a year, if I am really bored and have nothing else to do. You guys just must be sitting around TRYING to think of ways to spend money. I guess the least of your concerns is the voice of the community members that elected you, but that is the norm I guess. Get in office and then forget all the promises you made. Wow...nearly 2.5 million for a foot bridge that is not needed!!! |

2.4 million is a lot to waste on a bridge. It would be a waste. Use the money for something the people want..not the commissioners want. I'd rather see the money spent on something that will be used by most of the people, not just a select few. |

To romanatlarge, at least everyone knows who I am. Who are you? There are a lot more events that could be in Rome if it had the right facility. Forget football, it's over, so you won. However; I am tired of hearing that the leaders of our community want a "Better Quality of Life" but offer nothing to back it up. Why do you think our young people would want to stay in Rome after school? We must give them something else to do! Oh by the way, the Rome Braves will probably be a private enterprise after the Atlanta Braves are sold and who do you think built that stadium? The SPLOST! |

'Like a bridge over troubled water...'seems like the city should just lay this one down. |

Harry Pierce: (his post is below under hpierce)Back off on the forum! Just because you cannot sell tickets to your football games does not make the forum a bad venue. Yes the forum does and always will have issues, but I am tired of you bashing the forum and the floyd county government. I cannot beleive that you want the citizens of floyd county to pay for a new venue for your football team through a SPLOST. Your money has gone to your head! I will say that if a project can be developed on the west third side of the river than the foot bridge is a good thing. If they cannot, then it is a waste of money. |

Why spend 2.4 million on another bridge across the river when we already have 3? 5th Ave and 2nd Ave both have side walks, and then theres the old foot bridge which is still in good shape. I think the commissioners could find better things to do with a large sum of money like that. |

How can they ask the people of Floyd Count to approve a bridge connecting something that does not currently exists? What are the long term plans for this developement. The Forum is only really suitable for graduations. Why do they not put this 2.4 million towards a REAL arena? |
