Fort Oglethorpe police officer charged with battery

The alleged domestic dispute that ended in the arrest of a Fort Oglethorpe police officer Monday appeared to be alcohol-related, Police Chief Larry Black said Tuesday.

Catoosa County Sheriff deputies received a 911 call from Lt. James Robert Leamon’s wife at 4:15 a.m. New Year’s Day, Black said, concerning a “domestic altercation of some type” at Leamon’s 206 Becky Drive residence.

Officials said there were no injuries, and Leamon was released on $1,500 bond the same day. He faces a battery charge and is on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of an internal investigation, which Black said will probably be completed this week.

Black said Leamon is “a good police officer” and has been with the department for 10 years. He said all officers must be held accountable for their actions.

“We see that when alcohol is involved, people make bad decisions,” he said. “It’s just unfortunate. All officers working in law enforcement today realize there’s a very high standard.”

Sheriff Phil Summers declined comment on the arrest, referring all questions to Black. Officials said Leamon had never been arrested before.

Gees, of COURSE he got special treatment...this was kind of a case of "media" interest and they wanted him out of there ASAP.. not to mention he was on of them. And did you ever think that a cop in jail would get his a*% kicked? Another reason for them to get him released very quickly.

Why should it matter if he has ever been arrested before? The badge only makes a bad guy, worse, in my view.Floyd co. has 3 of their "finest" under inditment. The sheriff,s dept. in Floyd co. thinks the public won't notice a few lies. WRONG,we noticed.

Thiscantbegood, I only know what the paper reports, but, have you called the jail or judges offices or whoever does those things in that county to get answers? Is any of that public knowledge stuff? Good luck

Leamon claims he was kicked in the groin first.
Source: WDEF TV12.

That is his story and he's sticking to it.

North Ga., I hope you feel this way about everyone who is arrested and charged with a crime. They are all innocent until proven guilty.

Moutainman, I am new to this blog and to this area. However, I may be new to the ways of referring to women and liquor in the same metaphor and I am sure that you some how managed to mangle the interpretation. Women will be congenial to you if you deserve it, liquor or not, and they will tell you their opinion whether you want to hear it or not? Is liquor the question that we should be concerned with?

I also have another question...how do you feel about Oprah's decision to open a school for children 3,000 miles away from her home town of chicago, where the dropout rate is 50%?

some people are allowed to get out on bond on their own recognesense (Sp). In most cases where someone knows someone or they feel the suspect is no danger at all to flee, they can sign their own bond and leave on their own recognesense.

I see no prob. letting him out on New Years Day. I still say innocent until proven guilty. Let the man have his day in court.

I don't know. There's just something about a guy that arrests people for drinking too much but does the same thing. If you do it at home you are bound to do it elsewhere. I would think there would be classes on this with peace officers. Like the pot calling the kettle black.

Women and liquor are meant to be used responsibily. So what is the womans responsibilty when partying?Equal respect is the answer. All ways be a gentleman, and give the liquor the respect it deserves. That will make it easier not to fight with a lady.mm

Unforunately, not only do the police not give this right, but also our DA and courts. Sadly, also many people who read about something or hear it on the news when someone is arrested automatically believe the person to be guilty.

I don't know this person, but he is innocent in my eyes until it is proven otherwise and I certainly hope he didn't do what he has been accused of.

Like you, I would also like to know if he was given special treatment in getting out.

Bert, I understand what you are saying and you are right, a lot of people use 911 and dfcs to make false claims.

not defending anyone. but,a friend was in a bad relationship once and during an argument the wife calls 911 and hangs up without him even knowing it. shortly there was 2 cops at the door and if not for one cops hard questioning of the wife, my friend would have gone to jail that night with no chance of being cleared. the wife admited that she was mad and wanted him to suffer. she said that next time she didnt get her way that she would make sure she looked hit and he would go to jail! he had the good sense to get out before that happened and she has since gone to jail herself on drug charges. who knows how many times that has happened.although i grew up in a home where i saw my dad knock my mom around many times. made me sick then, makes me sick now. i have no tolerance for abusers male or female. they both can be just as bad. but what makes me madder than anything is for someone to abuse a child. that is where i come unglued!

No one should be above the law and no man should ever hit a woman.

All that innocence, that's why they sit in jail, unless bonded out, until trial.....
