"Sign, Sign, Everywhere a sign, Blocking out the scenery breaking my mind" .....Chorus from 1970's song, "SIGNS".Except, I have noticed that in Catoosa County, 'some' political yard signs are NOT everywhere. Some of them seem to be remaining in place, and other candidate's signs seem to be gone the day after I first notice them. Surely there isn't some misguided candidate or supporter who is stealing certain signs, while leaving others in place? That can't be, certainly not in a county where upon first meeting, strangers are asked, What's your name?" And the next thing they are asked is, "What church do you go to?" So no one is stealing political yard signs, surely. Must be me, then. I guess in my senility, I just 'thought' I saw some political signs where..... well, I guess I never really did see 'em... Except why is it, that the ones that I thought I saw 'next to' the other ones I thought I saw, are still there? |

i agree with footsie about the post on cell-phone use, not only at redmond rd. and redmond ct. as ihave stated on other blogs in soundoff and the watercooler this is getting really dangerous, and sooner or later some one is going to get killed because of cell-phone use while driving. maybe local police departments, can look at the situation with the publics help to prevent this. |

The traffic signal at Redmond RD and Redmond Ct. is dangerous, with drivers on cell phones and not paying attention to the two left hand turn lanes is a death trap. Twice in the past three months we have been forced to change lanes so we would not hit the person who cut us off, every time we travel this road we see this each time. Can people not read or see. MAKE CELL PHONE USERS PAY A HEFTY FINE. |

I posted this about six months and still no change..There really needs to be a way to start your own threads on here. I know you say you are working on it but that has been on here a while. You may want to look at another service for your SOUND OFF. There are lots of other providers of this service that would be much better than what you have now. This sure is a long time to be "working on something" Sound like Catoosa County Government!! |

Lets start a new BLOG about "the high cost of GAS and practical ways we can save money and conserve". The high cost of gas is causing the increase in other items, food, clothing, utilities, housing and contributes to inflation. |

ATTENTION ANYONE WANTING TO SAVE MONEY ON GAS!!! All you folks who are tired of paying the high cost of Gasolene. If you commute from either Calhoun, Rome, Adairsville or Cartersville to the Kennesaw, KSU, or Town Center areas of Cobb County. We have formed a VAN POOL that will be departing Calhoun Georgia Each morning after 6 pm each day. It will make 1 stop at the Adairsville Exit 306, Another at the Cartersville HWY 20 exit 290. And a third stop at Glade Road exit 278 each day Monday through Friday. It will make a few short stops each morning at Kennesaw State University by 8 AM, then turn and take Frey Road over to Busbee, then turn Right on Busbee and then turn left and go through the Executive Park right by Bank of America and then cross over Chastain Road into the Chastain Center Blvd Office Complex. We are currently looking for additional riders for our Van Pool. Currently some of us are spending $300.00 per month in gas to drive ourselves, not counting wear and tear, or maintenance costs on our own vehicles. This VAN POOL will only cost you at present $60.00 per month to join and ride. Your work hours need to be between 8 AM and 5 PM to participate in it. If your work hours are not 8am-5 pm but are willing to sacrifice a little personal time by arriving early, taking a shorter lunch hour, or staying a little later each day so that you could participate in our Van Pool you could save about $250 per month in GAS and in wear and tear on your own vehicle. WE currently have a few limited spots available if you'd like to join our VANPOOL, then please call Jim at 706 629-2625 in the evenings after 7:30 PM and leave a message and your name and call back number, or you can email us at Calhoun_Kennesaw_VanPool@yahoo.com We will check for emails periodically and respond to you. Many people commute from Calhoun, Rome, Cartersville, Kingston, and Adairsville areas daily. If you would'd like to have an extra $200-$300 a month, $2400- $3600 dollars yearly, that you can use elsewhere in your budget and make some new friends along the way then let us know. There will be no smoking allowed in the VAN. And you must pay your $60 per month to participate a month in advance because the funds have to be sent in early for all those participating to cover funding, transportation arrangements, and purchasing the GAS. Thanks for reading this message, we look forward to hearing from you. Jim with the Calhoun_Kennesaw_VANPOOL 706 629-2625 |

I have a suggestion for the LaFayette city council. How about we try to keep what businesses we have in the city open and encourage people to shop locally.I also would like our new council to encourage new businesses to open up shop in LaFayette. The city has lost so many shops it's starting to look like a ghost town. How many do we have to loose before some action is taken? There has never been anything here and I guess their never will but, Hey folks what about that golf course it's a beaut ain't it.Have you ever seen greens like it before and how about that club house.I tell you if your retired or rich or if you're just related to some one with alot of money and have all the time in the world to kill.I mean if you don't really work for a living. Come on down and check out the LaFayette City Course you'll be glad you did.Pay no attention to the empty buildings on the way that doesn't matter any way. You probably wouldn't want to shop there any way. While you're in town stop by the Food Lion Oh I am sorry that store got closed down. Ok , maybe rent a movie at Movie Gallery Oh sorry that store is closed too.. my mistake.Hey things are looking up I hear we are getting a Captain D's oh I forgot that deal fell through. Sorry.. My bad.I would say you could shop at K-Mart but it's gone and nothing has took it's place yet and we also lost a few fast food places but who's counting. So I have a slogan for LaFayette . "Welcome to LaFayette Queen City of the High Lands if we don't have it you didn't need it any way".How about that golf course. |

Moderator,Why is your "No Advertising" policy not being enforced on these blogs? It is apparent to many here, including myself, that the "revelation", "promotion," "information," being given out on this silver-type product is indeed advertising despite what the author/salesman claims his intention is. When I logged on today, I had fully expected to see that most (if not all) of Elder's posts to have been deleted because of your policy, yet I see that he is still 'spamming' several threads with his sales pitch. It is very annoying. Thank you. |

hoosiermama,You are correct about the side effects of collodial silver. A simple google search brings up a vast number of sites either promoting, or condeming this stuff. I tend to give more credit to the people who aren't trying to sell the concoctions. Take a look at this site: http://www.quackwatch.com/01QuackeryRelatedTopics/PhonyAds/silverad.html |

A couple of weeks ago there was a man on the Today show that had taken colloidal silver for some type of ailment he had and his flesh is now blue. Surely this is not what you are trying to promote. |

You're right msla,I'm guilty of long posts too, ya know. lol! I agree with you if we are speaking of "these people" in general. But not with this particular person. I guess what I was really trying to say is: "Please get rid of AtlantaBurning's rediculously long posts that have nothing to do with the threads that they are posted within." I don't think that this person has even ATTEMPTED to post in the watercooler area, which would be more appropriate. I think they have another motive besides just posting comments to the subjects on here like the rest of us do. Actually, that "flaming other members" rule has been broken by their last post, IMO. When you call a member Illiterate, as well as say that there are rarely any posts on here with any merit (that would be referring to the rest of us) - sure seems like flaming to me. This person should be removed, if they have not been already. Seems to me that they are attempting to promote themself, or the writing of someone else, and they have not been met with a positive reaction here. Therefore, they have chosen to attack the intelligence of the other members that do not wish to spend the day reading their posts. I haven't been on here all that long (just a few months) but I do not see any reason why the folks on here who have come to have discussions, laughs, and even to be consoled at times when needed - should have to endure this "intellectual" idiot's foul remarks. -All because he/she didn't get his/her way. -I know that wasn't very nice...but folks like that just git my fethers all ruffeled. LOL! |

Bygracethrufaith, I have to disagree with you on something. Perhaps these people need to simply be redirected over to the Watercooler site. Don't get me wrong. I hate writing these words. Because I know who I'll end up reading and the subject material 'out of the blue' when it gets posted. But that is the fairer thing to do. And that's why the Watercooler is there - for anything and about anything. As for the length of a post.... well, I'm so guilty of long posts, I'd hate to see a limit placed on this area. Then some of us would have to go back and forth wasting a lot of time and effort trying to straighten things out. But I do give you an 'A' for the effort of trying to stop this person's rampage. ha ha ha ha!!! |

Moderator/Administrator:Suggestion: Please do something about those who post INCREDIBLY LONG comments that have absolutely nothing to do with the thread that they are posting in. It takes forever to scroll past these articles that are embedded within the comments to read previous posts. I realize that I have a tendency to create long posts myself, however, my comments are relative to the thread in which they are posted, as are many others on here who have created long posts. It's disappointing and a nusuance to click on a subject only to find a post that is so long, it has pushed many of the previous posts off the page, not to mention the fact that it has nothing to do with the subject. It is very obnoxious and arrogant for this person to believe that their articles are more important than the other comments/blogs. Please remove articles posted within the threads that are obviously not comments on the subject and suggest this person submit the articles directly to you as administrator of this site, to be available for other's comments. Just like the rest of us have to do if we want to suggest a new topic. IF anyone is reading these articles/blogs/books - whatever you want to call them, they are not commenting other than to say how annoyed they are by them. I am not the only one here that feels this way. Thank you. |

Mr.James Mashburn is not uneducated and that is an insult to him.He is a business owner and has ran a successful tree service for over thirty years and owns property in the city.He is not uninformed he attends council meetings and is up to date on the city budget and he speaks to city employees regularly.Lets say he started a business with a van and a couple of chain saws and made the business into a million dollar operation all by hard work.I would say he is pretty smart to me.Make no mistake his personality is larger than life but he is a good man and he is not dumb by any means. He has his cell phone number on his campaign cards call him and talk to him don't judge him until you know him personally. If you judge people on appearance maybe you are uneducated and uninformed. |

Thank you for your suggestions. Brian, Soundoff can be used by any News Publishing Co. newspapers for blogs, and each paper chooses which stories to post. We have been attempting to do more from the Rome area lately, but the Fort Oglethorpe and LaFayette blogs often get more attention because so many people post to those stories, pushing them into "Popular Blogs." Keep checking "Recent Blogs", where we've recently added topics on the Floyd County Schools superintendent; state-funded special needs scholarships; the Cotton Block; SPLOST; and Tour de Georgia. Older Rome-area blogs can be found by clicking on "Community" and "Hot Topics." If anyone has a specific story they want to discuss, please post a request in this forum. To GaHick1, there is a current local sports blog located here: Local sports |

Has anyone ever found out what has to be done to get a blog started? Is it just whatever the site owner comes up with, or can you actually submit a blog to be started as a thread? Perhaps the tabs at the top should include one entitled "County Topics" rather than "Hot Topics" (the "Hot Topics" tab is useless- "Popular Blogs" are already listed to the right.) then a person could go there-submit a blog for approval to become a thread-then let the moderator/site owner decide if it is appropriate & go from there??? |

There really needs to be a blog for the City of LaFayette elections. I feel it is a responsibility of this site to keep the citizens informed and educated about the qualifications of the candidates, good or bad. I don't know if there is some underlying reason why this issue isn't being talked about. Perhaps there are some truths that some people don't want made public. Time is running short as the runnoff election is soon (Dec. 4). There is alot of information that should be shared that the voters need to arm themselves with prior to casting their precious votes. Let's open a blog! |

Any old search option would be swell. But as for walker county, specifically Rock Spring Elementary, They need a crossing guard down at the road. And people need to stop crossing the parking lot with their kids in non-cross walk areas. Do they want to get hit? really? Anyway. A crossing guard would make traffic move better. If they don't already, the other schools should get one too. |

Torre, I was told by someone that works at LaFayette that Mark White showed up at City Hall on qualifying day with Bill Craig and Eric Tallent. They said that Bill Graig was telling someone there that Mark paid his qualifying fee and wants him in there for some reason. The golfers at LaFayette Golf Course was suppose to have taken up money for him also. That is being kept quiet at this point. Eric Tallent is kin to Mark White, Mark Whites dad plays golf at the golf course and lots of golfers took up money there for Mr. Craig. Ask around, you'll see. I know the person that told me this was tellin the truth, but you can check for yourself. It don't affect me anyway. I think what it all boils down to is some of the ones running against the incumbents are fixing to expose whats been going on down there. James Mashburn is one of the ones thats going to do it. They would like for him to be kept out of the spotlight too but hes got flashing banners, TV listings, and all sorts of advertising. Not much luck keeping him quiet. |

To SomeoneI am not sure why people are not interested in the election in LaFayette. I think Mr. Craig is an honest man and I haven't heard anything about a connection with him and the golf course, that would surprise me. Also as for Mr. Mashburn, what a circus we would have in this town it he were elected. This gentlemen is obviously so uneducated and uninformed that it would be an embarrassment to the City in about 20 different ways. We don't need that in this town. Mr. Swanson seems to represent all the people and has helped the elderly and has on several occasion came against certain power people to protect individuals. He is probably the best councilman we have as far as not showing favortism. There definately needs to be some changes made but we don't need a joke as a representative for our town either. |

Torre, from what I've heard in my part of the county, The LaFayette elections is being kept quiet to keep certain candidates in the spotlight, and keep others out of it. Talk is going around though, If you want the ones that are really interested in helping the city and are not yes men, Its James Mashburn and Barry Hollis. Not sure about the others. I just heard some folks talking about those two in particular. What about our Chickamauga elections, Are we gonna hear anything but bad news from here? |

bygrace, I sent my post regarding the ridiculous amount of meaningless blogs on here as compared to real news stories and emailed it to several of the "big wigs" at RNT. I have received no response and it's obvious that they could care less what I think. Months ago, someone on here claimed that a local prominent man, who was in the news, was pimping his wife. After the accusation was made, I posted "I don't think he's a pimp, what evidence do you have?" A couple days later, they censored the post where they called him a pimp, AND my post where I defended him. I found out later that he is friends with one of the RNT editors. SOOOOOOOO,Now with the new forum at Romenewswire, I dont' intend to frequent this site nearly as much. I'll leave you all to handle the next twenty blogs on jeannie babb taylor's upcoming articles: "Cereal, I think it's better with milk"....."Lifetime: The best network on TV"....."Breast Cancer: a disease created by man"...and of course "I hate all men, except for those I'm chatting with on EHarmony". |

Rome,I see that when I looked up the article on Romenews tribune website, that there was no option to comment on this story. Therefore, they obviously don't do this for every article. They really should...the papers already dictate what is believed to be news worthy. The readers should at least be able to decide what they want to discuss the most of those articles. Perhaps Jeannie Taylor is running this thing after all LOL. I've wondered the same about the Catoosa County News---she got just a little under a full page this week for her blabberings. I didn't even bother to read the entire thing. It gets to be a bit monatanous (sp?) after a few paragraphs. Now there's an option to comment on the mess on this site. I see that no one has. I have commented on a couple of her articles....but the comments that I made could be copied and pasted as remarks after just about every one of her others. She usually just complains about everything in the round world and finds a way to relate it to domestic violence, breastmilk, and the evilness of republicans. Very few of the articles that I've read relate to much else. So here's my suggestion - Too much time and space is given to this woman. If she's actually PAYING for her space in the paper, then it needs to be made known, otherwise, CCNews is going to continue to be looked down upon for displaying her biased spews of venom toward men, her opposing political party, and anyone who choses to use baby formula. |

Rome,Absolutely not sure if this has ANYTHING to do with the reason some things are discussed and some are not, but, when you go to the Catoosa County news website and read an article, sometimes (not sure if it is always or not, I've never paid that much attention) at the end of the article, there is a link to post a comment on the article. I don't know if that puts the article on this site as a blog, but once I clicked on the link and it brought me here. That's how I found this site. If they do not have a choice to do this on every article, then they should. Then the readers may have more of a chance to decide what is "Blog-worthy." The things that you mentioned should have their own thread, problem is, those of us in Catoosa County don't get an opportunity to read about them in our newspaper, (for some reason, they must think we shouldn't be interested in what's going on down the road from us) or we'd probably be right there with you wanting to discuss them as well. It's obvious you guys have alot more going on than we do right now (and probably most of the time). Otherwise those articles that we are discussing would not be such a "hot" topic. |

Out of 65 topics under "hot blogs".....Four are tied to Rome, Georgia.....and that counts the one that says the DA in floyd county has been assigned to the Walker County Parker case. Four Out of Sixty Five topics relating to the city that this newspaper and website have as its namesake seems a bit skewed. Especially when you consider that Floyd County has around 100,000 people living in it, and Catoosa County's population is about half that. Especially when you consider that of those four topics, one is indirectly related to floyd county and another I tied in simply knowing that the Tour De Georgia runs through floyd county (the story has nothing to do with floyd county). Yet, there are the same number of stories that specifically mention Chickamauga in the blog title, and more are indirectly related.Of those 65 "Hot Blog" topics that appear on the screen, Nine of the topics include Catoosa or Ringgold in the title, Numerous others are directly related to catoosa or ringgold, they are just not mentioned in the title. I'm not sure if Jeannie Babb Taylor is the moderator of this site, and I love to read a crazy editoriall as much as the next guy, but where's the balance? The son of a Guatemalan diplomat is on federal trial for running a criminal organization here in Rome, and testimony has been given implicating the former sheriff, doctors, lawyers, including the lawyer who once represented the county, there is a kidnapping involved, as well as death threats and a violent burglary.............yet, not one blog for discussion on this topic. However, single, teenage mother returns to play softball has a blog, the problem with breastfeeding, Bear in lafayette, Debates about game rooms in Rossville....all have blogs???? very odd. |

it is really a shame that you have not had a blog for the Mario Armas case for the past week. In recent blogs you have the following titles: 1) Ringgold High......, 2) Griffith.....(a story from Ringgold), 3) Ringgold man......., 4) 9/11 (wow, something not from Ringgold), 5) Catoosa fire, 6) Catoosa 911, 7) Jeannie Babb Taylor....*(my understanding is she is an editorialist for the Catoosa News, 8) In Catoosa County:..........., 9) Time Limits on Catoosa yard sales....and FINALLY, lo and behold 10) Floyd BOE...... what's up with that? Can I assume that the moderator of this site is from Catoosa and also works for the Catoosa branch of Rome-News Tribune? Rome's biggest trial in a decade (soon to be trumped by the Harper trial) is going on, with lots of good reporting, and lots of local names being brought up publicly in the trial, doctors, lawyers, former sheriff, law enforcement officers............and the best You can do is Nine blogs on Catoosa county and one blog on the Floyd BOE.............Let me know if there is something I need to do to be able to discuss Rome Issues. Thanks Rome Ga Sir |
