IN MY OPINION IF THE PEOPLE IN CHARGE WOULD JUST TIGHTEN THE SCREWS ON BEN A LITTLE BIT MORE , HE MIGHT JUST DECIDE HE DOESNT WANT TO GODOWN WITH THE SHIP.THERESA NEEDS TO BE BROUGHT HOME.AND I FEEL IN MY HEART THAT BEN CAN DO JUST THAT. MY LOVE AND PRAYERS TO HER FAMILY.

I applaud the police for arresting drunk drivers, I for one don't want some drunken idiot killing innocent people, I have talked to a lot of people serving time for killing someone while drunk. Most say it was an accident?....It was NO accident no one made you get behind the wheel drunk and drive you made the choice and no matter how much time you serve or how much apologizing you do it will not bring a loved one back from the grave or make someone walk you have crippled.

Banjo......I'd like to see the statistics you're talking about that say we're the Highest DUI conviction rate in the state....because if you stated it right, all that means is that for every one hundred people ARRESTED for DUI, the State wins more of those 100 cases than in other cities/counties....which means our police are making better cases for DUI than in other municipalities. If only 50 people are arrested but 49 are convicted, then that is a DUI conviction rate of 98%...where as Summerville could arrest 1000 people, and if 950 are convicted, then we have a higher conviction rate.....so I'd like to see the numbers to make my opinion as to what they really mean. Broad Street is actually still packed on the Weekends....harvest moon, jeffersons, the alley, the pear all have big weekend crowds, and when you drive down broad street and think, look at all these nicely dressed couples just strolling and enjoying the evening, how could the police be so mean? Drive one block north and then take a tour of Tribune Street. you'll see all the drunks out back, vomiting, fighting and trying to stumble back to their cars.
Last thing, The city police all have cameras in their car......if you were stopped and their reason for stopping you was "parked on Broad Street after 10 p.m., I suggest you ask for the video (it's public record) then file a complaint with the Chief, the commission and most importantly POST for their stopping you without reasonable suspicion. Let me know how the case turns out.

I think it is safe to say that there are many degrees between not enforcing D.U.I. at all, and boasting the highest rate in the state. Anyhow, perhaps I came across pessimistically. I happen to adore both Rome and Floyd county, or else I would not choose to remain here. I take advantage of the rivers , trails and mountains more than most. I guess my complaint was aimed more at the downtown area than at the entire city. I just feel that we do not have the venues to attract the locals into the downtown community, let alone some of the artists who wish to share their work. I don't care to go "clubbing" or partying in the streets like some do in Atlanta. Nor do I wish to "destroy" someones family values by having a drink at the bar. But I would rather not be pulled over on my way home because my car was seen "parked on Broad Street after 10pm". Glad I decided against that 3rd beer. And how is anyone who attends a church affected by the goings on in a tavern in the evening? I don't see how that choice involves anyone else but me and the others in the bar. Unless it is just that someone else's will has been imposed upon mine. I do know however that the Allman Brothers Band played Frost Chapel in 1971. And that Dave Matthews played The River's Edge in the 90's. And even 2 or 3 years ago there were folks out on Broad on a Friday night. And also that perhaps all of us posting here have too much time on their hands.

People who say there is nothing to do in Rome have way too much time on their hands. There are more restaurants here than any other town this size in Georgia. There are plenty of places for music, including several places downtown. There are three theatres, two bowling lanes, a Par 3 course, minor league baseball, high school and college sports. The churches are filled over with activities.

Banjo, I think we should all get together and convince the city commissioners to tel the police to stop enforcing DUIs.....It really angers me that I can't tie one on and get home without harassment from the police. We go to atlanta and decatur a lot, and calling rome's drink prices high is ridiculous......what are you comparing it to? Tiajuana?
If the bars here were really smart, they'd run shuttles to the college areas.....or contract with a cab company for lower rates.......or even, as they did in one city i've lived in, contract with the wrecker companies for lower rates (since people always cry that they don't want to leave their cars there ((funny they feel safe enough to drink until they're too drunk to take care of themselves, but not safe enough for their car))).
I personally think this blog is reflective of the entire website. Let anything happen in Walker or Catoosa (especially) counties and there will be eight blogs posted that stay on the hot blogs and recent blogs for months (JUST GAZE TO YOUR RIGHT AND YOU'LL SEE THAT AT THIS POINT, THAT 14 of the 20 blogs listed are in those two counties.)

I think what this section is showing most is that right now there is nothing to do in Rome. Our police are overzealous, our drink prices are high and there is no good place to get them. There is nowhere to see a good band in Rome right now, and the churches don't want Y'all dancing anyway. Plus, we boast the highest D.U.I. conviction rate in the state, so I dare you to go downtown. The question people in Rome need to ask right now is what are they going to do about it? It wasn't always like this. There was a time when downtown actually had stuff happening. But the bars are all closing and folks are losing interest. I can just imagine what our Berry students think of the "Between the Rivers" district. They all go back to Atlanta to have some fun. Or is this exactly what people here want?

Movie reviews. If you want me to read this do some movie reviews. Video game reviews would be great, too. Seriously, it's kind of boring right now. Spice it up!

Iwas just #$%&!ing about the Indian store owners that eat curry 7 days a week .Only problem is they only bathe 1 day a week.The oder is almost unbreathable.The food is O.K.if the eater takes a bath every day or two.

Taj Palace is pretty good as is Crystal Thai. I'm glad to see places like this opening in Rome and hopefully people will try them out, like the food, and keep coming back. I'd love to see more cultural restaurants opening in Rome and I'll keep supporting what few we have in hopes of seeing that happen.

Indian food has never been a favorite of mine because I don't care for curry, but tonight, my son and I trued the Taj Palace on Hicks Dr. (down near the old Kroger bldg.). One man was running the place, he said call him Eddie. He listened to our preferences regarding curry and custom cooked our meal. We had chicken, goat, and flounder, all lightly seasoned. It was quite good, the Indian hot tea he served us was absolutely delicious and the prices were reasonable. If any of you wishes to try something a little different, I would recommend it. It definitely wasn't boring.
