Local attorney Ed Hine bought the Cotton Block property at the corner of Second Avenue and Broad Street today at auction.
He was the high bidder at $410,000. Hine says he has no plans for the property right now.
Hine outbid Charles Craton and Ira Levy, both of whom were former partners in Quarter Ton LLC, the investment group that owned the Cotton Block.
In addition to the downtown Cotton Block corner, Dempsey Auction Co. planned to sell the old Top Hat building at Third Avenue among other local properties.
The Top Hat property and building, which had an opening bid of $400,000, did not sell. Lou Dempsey said the building itself was recently listed on the market for more than $600,000.
Owner Levy said he needed more for the properties to close the deal.
