The special needs scholarship provides state-funded scholarships to disabled students in public schools to attend another public school or transfer to a private school. The General Assembly adopted the scholarship program this past winter, and it has been enacted for the current school year. During this school year, almost 900 children earned the first scholarships under the new program. The state certified 117 private schools to participate, including Vineyard Harvester Christian Academy in nearby Cedartown.
