Catoosa County firefighter Brett Cripps, 25, should be released from Erlanger Medical Center today after break-ing his leg during a single story building fire on Alabama Hwy. early Monday morning.

Cripps twisted his ankle and fell while pulling a hose line at the 2 a.m. fire.

According to Catoosa County Fire Department Lt. Steve Quinn, Cripps’ recovery time is eight to 10 weeks.

Cripps is also a volunteer at Station 5 in Catoosa County.

The county should have insurance as well as worker's comp to help for the bills...I'm sure he would still be paid b/c he was hurt on the job if they have that kind of thing on their employees and if not I would reconsider working for them if they don't even care enough about their employees to do that.....this means for deputies as well...not just firefighters

Just where is Station 5? Where is a list of where the different stations are and there number? Is there a "fund" that can be accessed during the recovery time for this guy to pay his bills? Doubt it! Catoosa County citizens should have a fund just for this. Not to paint the firehall or buy a new hose, but to help a firefighter out where he/she is injured trying to save the home or life of a citizen of Catoosa County. I would give to this fund and I am sure other would also. This could be devastating for this young man if he is just starting out in life. And I'm sure he is. What about medical bills, are they covered by the fire department. There are many things here that I think the average citizen doesn't know but needs to.
