Johnny Carino's, 838 Turner McCall Boulevard, is "permanently closed," according to a sign at the restaurant.

Crews are working to empty the restaurant, and the large sign near the roadway is being removed.

"It's no longer economically feasible for us to stay here," said Louie Bargach, vice president of operations.

Bargach said the restaurant has been in Rome for four years, and there are possible plans to open a new location. However, he would not comment on whether the new restaurant would be in Rome.

I just retired from the military a couple of years ago and came back to Rome after 22 years and hardly nothing has changed. We have a few more restaurants, but the Mall is still the suckiest I've ever seen for a town this size, there are no real good places to go on a date and party, even though the town has built up as much as it has, there are NO FAST FOOD places on Loop 1 to serve North Rome and Shannon area. Broad Street would be gold mine if they would get all the buildings looking restored instead of new/contemporary and bring in some different business besides these finance companies that loan to people who can't pay there bills already and SUPER high priced children shops. It seems Romans are stuck in a time warp and don't want to let out their nickers. BUT...I want my children to grow up where I did. I just wish we could get a Targets, Joe's Crab Shack, a couple of fast food joints on the Loop and a Publix.

I think that's horrible that they have suffered the curse of the building too! Shoot, there are hardly any good places to eat in this town, Carino's wasn't the best but at least it was a little different. I wish they would have just left that place a Shoney's. I miss the hot fudge cakes. As for Provino's, I guess to each there own. Yuk!

From what I heard the corporate folks came in at the end of the shift last night and told everyone that they were closing. I guess it's god that they waited until Christmas was over but many of the employees had worked many hours over the holidays with no warning that this was coming.

Another thing. Just remember when you say good riddance that a lot of folks depended on this place for income. Would you say good riddance if a plant closed down and a lot of folks were out of work?
