Technical Sgt. Kyle Brown of LaFayette is currently deployed in Southwest Asia in support of Iraqi Freedom. His duties are tracking high-priority assets across many bases in the Middle East, logistics focal point for host and foreign nations.
So how long have you been in the Air Force?
I’ve been in for 15 years this March.
How many times have to deployed to the Middle East?
Well this is my second trip, but I have been deployed to many other places.
What is the most exciting thing you have done while in the military?
That’s a hard one. I’ve been to 28 different countries in 15 years and have great memories from each place.
What do you enjoy the most about your job?
I like meeting people and making friends from everywhere. I still keep in contact with my Italian neighbors from Italy.
What was you best assignment?
I loved living in Italy. The food was great and the people were awesome.
What is your greatest accomplishment?
Well I graduated from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in work force education. I even had a 3.4 GPA.
So, what exactly is your job in the desert?
I am the point of contact for 12 bases across the region. I work in the Combined Air Operations Center. It’s the headquarters for everything that is going on up range. We work with many other nations’ military such as Great Britain, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Qatar, and a few others. I think it’s neat to see how other nation’s military do their missions.
Where have you been stationed?
Well I started my career at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, Nev., where I worked in supply, then later moved to the 820th Red Horse squadron (combat engineers).
Then I went to Kunsan Air Base South Korea, where I worked in avionics maintenance back shop. Then I went to Aviano Air Base, Italy, where I worked in the supply squadron. Now I’m stationed at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois, in the Mobility Air Force Logistic Support Center.
What advice do you have for people just finishing high school?
Write a list of goals and keep then in your wallet or purse and look at them every day, because if you don’t have goals you have nothing to work for.
