ROCK SPRING, Ga. -- PlyMart on U.S. 27 in Rock Spring officially closed its store Monday.

A sign posted on the main door of the store called the closing "indefinite."

PlyMart officials have not returned calls regarding the closing.

The store sold a complete line of building materials to both contractors and to the general public.

Stacey Mauer, president of the Walker County Chamber of Commence, said that she had not heard any word as to the closing or the reasons behind it.

In 2005, construction of a $500,000 rail spur to accommodate the PlyMart facility and other businesses in the Rock Spring area was completed.

About $160,000 of the spur’s cost was paid for with a federal Appalachian Regional Commission grant. The remainder was paid with special purpose local option sales tax, or SPLOST, proceeds and grants from the Georgia Department of Transportation.

The biggest problem with this company was they tried to bring big business(corporate) to a small town. They were not interested in the little man they wanted the mega builders. Live and learn. Employees and customers were not given any notice, kinda feels like we were hung out to dry.Hope to see new hardware come to Rock spring we really need one

I saw workers cleaning up lumber left overs from the supply yard there yesterday.
Closing possibly due to the slow housing construction market?
Maybe an Ace Hardware will move back in that building.

Sounds like that was tax money well spent.
