LAFAYETTE, Ga. -- Two girls have been charged with making bomb threats at LaFayette Middle School.
According to a statement from principal Mike Culberson, it was reported Tuesday that the bomb threat had been written on the wall of a girl's bathroom around 11 a.m.
School officials discovered the identity of the girls after reviewing video cameras.
The LaFayette Police Department was notified and according to Culberson, assisted in the questioning of the girls. The girls allegedly admitted to writing the threat in an effort to go home early.
Both girls were charged with two felonies: making terroristic threats, and disruption of the school day. Both girls will serve out of school suspension for the reminder of the year and sent to a tribunal for additional punishment.
Culberson stressed the seriousness of the treats stating, "All future acts of this nature will result in maximum punishment provided by both the school system and the police department."

It is a shame that the actions of our high school are now flooding over to our middle school, but I have to ask were the children evacuated and the school searched or were they sure that this was not a legitimate threat before they took the time to review the security cameras, I am sure that they don't actually have the cameras in the restrooms, so they had to be guessing that they had the right girls just because they were in the right place at the right time. Still I agree with the punishment and I think that they need to understand that what they have done is serious, just because they are even younger than the students from the high school, they should still have to worry about this following them through life, so should the ones from the high school, then maybe this will prove a point to them and all others, that wrong is still wrong and right will prevail. |
