Authorities on Tuesday arrested a teenager for a bomb threat at LaFayette Middle School.

A written threat was discovered by a student, who reported it about 10 a.m., said LaFayette Public Safety Director Chief Tommy Freeman.

“Basically it indicated a threat in the written statement and it was turned over to the teachers and the staff at LaFayette Middle,” Freeman said.

The school was not evacuated and classes went on as scheduled, he said.

A suspect, who is 13 years old, was arrested about 1 p.m. and charged with terroristic threats and disrupting a public school.

“Through some investigations and talking to different children and interviewing certain people and looking at the evidence and also looking at the note itself, we got a clear indication and it pointed to a suspect,” Freeman said. “We then interviewed that individual with the parents’ consent and he admitted to it, so he has been arrested.”

Freeman said the teen also faces disciplinary action from the school system, in addition to his criminal charges. The criminal charges will be dealt with by juvenile court.

He said LaFayette police are still investigating a bomb threat Monday at LaFayette High School. “We hopefully expect some good results on it by the end of the week,” Freeman said.
