Just a thought, shop with a cop was this weekend. Did that include the mall? |

From an internet search...."God helps those who help themselves!" Hezekiah 6:1 This verse, of course, is not in the Bible. Hezekiah sounds plausible enough, but is not a real book of scripture. "Yeah! That's from the book of Hezekiah, isn't it?" is the code-word for these kinds of phantom texts. This would seem old news by now, but just recently a friend of ours was scandalized when we told her this "verse" did not exist. More important, this "verse" is unbiblical in its meaning. It is exactly the opposite of the message of scripture. Jer 17:5 (NIV) This is what the LORD says: "Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who depends on flesh for his strength and whose heart turns away from the LORD." Prov 28:26 (NIV) He who trusts in himself is a fool... My dad has been a pastor for 34 years and actually had a lady stand up in business meeting one night claiming that "the bible says that God helps those who help themselves..." It would have been totally inappropriate to laugh, but he felt like it. |

Just a reminder... you'll never find "God helps those who help themselves" in the bible. It is actually a quote from Benjamin Franklin. It's also been attributed to the book "Hezekiah," which is not a book of the bible. |

Sorry ByGrace, looked at the wrong post. She initially targed Rome and Floyd County; she's a transplant from Savannah and picked our precious city for some reason. Now she's targeting Chattooga County. Do a google search just like this...... "teresa watson" rome .... and you will find it. |

I'm not going to list her website name because I don't want to give her any more publicity. But, I do know, she helped ruin the rec dept., still has multiple errors in her "factual" findings (Al Leonard never once attended a rec. dept. concert or event), can't even spell Branch Connelly's name right, and does nothing but stir trouble. Bygracethrufaith said it right -- VERY insensitive. |

I agree that the problem is leadership at the Rec. The new director was "hand picked" by board members, city and county leaders, even though he had plenty in his file to warrant a dismissal. He kept them informed of anything he didn't like even it it was false and for that he was rewarded with the job. Makes you wonder by the Y, YAI, and church programs like Upward are doing so well. |

Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in to the Romegasir comments abou the Rec..... I personally know the person who used to handle the event coordnation and all the PR -- all in one job. That person left b/c the new director cursed at her and was very non-professional. Now that job has been split up, and there have been two people hired and two people leave already, even though the first girl did it all for 9 years. Just a little FYI on how the "new" director is such a people person. |

Because citizens actually "want" to be a part of parades.... and I don't recall ever not being able to get home because of the Christmas or Shrine parade, both of which bring visitors to our town. Pretty sure these parades have never been bailed out financially, either. Don't be misled by the "tourism dollars" marketing strategy. I've been on the inside and know how and why those figures are tallied. |

Here's a thought.... the TDGa raised $70,000 for the American Cancer Coalition, after being bailed out by AT&T at the last minute. It closed numerous community roads, caused tons of traffic hassles for citizens, affected regularly scheduled events and business operations. However, the Relay for Life, which did not close any roads, did not cause any traffic hassles, did not affect other community events in a negative way, has been in our community for a longer period of time, and did not block any businesses, raised over $250,000. Wonder which one I'll support from now on???? |
