Maggie, I wish I could go to the roadshow. I love that show. I know you must be excited about it and I hope you have a wonderful time. I think there is a lot of standing involved and my back couldn't handle that but I would sit in the floor if I had to (or maybe take a folding chair along). Take care and again, have a wonderful time.

Maggie, I haven't been on the cruse yet. The trees are in the ground and the blueberries are doing well for their first year but we are trying to get enouth fence up to keep the deer out. They have eaten the tops of most of the okra and all the sunflower plants.
We are still working hard on getting it going, have had a few set backs but keep praying that we will get it right eventually.

Hi Maggie. Hope you are doing well. They probably won't put my post up there but at least I said what I had to say about the situation. I'm fed up with our elected officials who think their office puts them above the average John Q Citizen. These people should be held to a higher standard then the ordinary man on the street. In 2001, license's had to be renewed every 4 years, Garry Fricks knew he did not have a valid license. Suppose he had hit someone and killed or seriously injured them, it happens every day. And this man is a representative of Floyd county, he is a commissioner.
Didn't mean to rant, we just have so much corruption from the local level to the White House, there doesn't seem to be any honesty in our entire system. It's no matter what I do, let me show you my government ID card, it is a free pass to ignore the law.

Mr. Moderator, Perhaps this is thought provoking enough. For 5 years now, I have fought through telephone call, e-mails, and letters to my representatives, to try to get our drivers license and insurance laws enforced. While it's true that many of the people driving without license and insurance are in this country illegally, we have recently had a Floyd County Commissioner arrested in Calhoun for driving with a license that had been suspended since 2001. Not only that, he had no proof of insurance, had a tag from another vehicle on his truck and instead of his license tried to present the arresting officer with his Floyd County Commissioner ID card.
That man was Floyd County Commissioner Garry Fricks, who stated that he knew there was a problem with his license for a "few months" but had procrastinated about taking care of it. Did he not try to renew his license since 2001? Surely it was not only suspended but also expired by now.
The other county commissioners have blown it off by basically saying that he didn't violate any laws of his office, but he was driving to meetings for his job and was reimbursed for his gasoline. Does the Floyd County Commission not require a valid drivers license before paying for his gas?
Quite frankly, I find the situation to be an embarrassment to this county!

Blogeye, they talk of food shortages around the world and that there may be more shortages due to biofuel production. Why then, is Canada going to pay their farmers $50 million to kill off all their breeding hogs and not produce any pork for 3 years? 50% of their hogs are shipped to the USA. They want to drive prices up.

I too have been following the forums regarding the truckers striking. Quite a few of them shut down April 1st and there are more shutdowns planned for May. Just in time to drive through all the illegal aliens who will be marching in major cities. They don't have a march planned for Atlanta, maybe the new Georgia laws are working.

maggie, our goats, pig and horses keep the grass down but I don't let them in the front yard. Hope all of you are doing well. I'm Ok, just busyier than a cat covering it up. We put about 30 more apple trees in the ground this past week and I'm hoping the cold didn't get them. The blueberries are doing good so far. We had another shipment come in today so my son is trying to work all day and plant half the night.

Maggie, time and weather have not cooperated so we are running behind on the planting. The barn and chicken house are finished and if it is not raining tomorrow, they will put the fence up and the guys will bring the washout for the driveway. We have 102 blueberry bushes in the ground and they have buds already. It doesn't look as though the cold snap has harmed them. The fig bushes have buds also. We still have 175 fruit and nut trees to get out and it looks as though that won't get started before Monday. We also have about 35 decorative trees (Leland Cypris, Crape Myrtle and Magnolias) to plant and my rose bushes are soaking right now and are budding in the water. There are 18 of them and I've got to get them in the ground in the next few days. We got the old nasty carpet out and the new floor in and it is great. I have one Chihuahua, the older one, who is afraid to walk on it and trys to stay in the bedroom where there is still carpet. I have to pick him up and carry him to the door to go outside, he slipped and fell on the slick kitchen floor in my old house and he hasn't forgotten it. He has a bad hip (birth defect) and a touch of arthritis.

The grandbabies came back today and the work always takes a nose dive when they are here. Our baby goat has learned to crawl under the fence so we are going to have to move him. So far, he always stays close to his mother but I'm afraid he might start to wander soon, right now, he is going into the pasture with the horses. He is about the size of my bigest Chihuahua and snow white. He is so cute. We also have 40 baby chicks and 3 baby ducks that we are ready to move into the chicken house as soon as it is finished (the fencing part).

It's starting to look like a farm around here but we still have a lot of junk to get rid of. The people that lived here before made piles of stuff like old dishwashers, swingsets, gocarts, a truck filled with empty cans and garbage, etc. We have someone picking up all the metal but there is a lot that we need to burn and the wind has stayed to strong to do that yet. We also do not have the green houses up yet because of the wind.

I didn't mean to write a book, but thanks for asking. You know how I am, I get mouth (or in this case fingers) in motion and brain out of gear. I hope you and everyone else are well. Take care and stay safe.

Maggie, if you remember, my son's little Chihuahua was killed by a coyote last summer. We had two that would sit in the garden like they owned it. Our dogs stay in a fenced area when they are outside now.

Familymom, I don't think there is an exact time for the honey flow. According to my son, his hives had already started when he was showing them to my grandson on his birthday, March 9th. He is going Sunday to pick up some bees that have infested a mans house so he is trying to get more hives built before he goes to get them. Good luck with yours, he love having them.

familymom, my son keeps bees. If you will post your question, I will see if he has an answer for you.

Diogenes, you are in my prayers. Most of us who have older children have gone through similar circumstanses and understand what you are going through. Pray for your daughter and don't loose your patience with her. She didn't change overnight and the changes you pray for will take time. God Bless you.

I'm a Tyner alumni, 1962 (Rams & Hill toppers) and my younger brother went to Brainerd, 1964. My great grandfather was stationed at Tyner during the Civil War.
I think the restaurant you're speaking of was the Brainerd Village Restaurant. We didn't eat out often but we went there a few times. My grandmother loved the Maypole restaurant down town, and Bee's in Rossville. Remember the peanut man at the Planters store and the Krystal next to the Greyhound bus station on Market St? Once I started driving, our favorite hangout was cruising the Rebel Drive Inn on Rossville Blvd. They had a "Lotta Burger" that was great. Oh, I used to race in the powder puff derby's at Boyd's International Speedway too.
Speaking of pack rating, I still have my grandmothers cast iron skillets from Lodge Cast Iron in South Pittsburgh. She bought them in 1900, when she moved there from Texas. I don't pack them away though, I use them daily.
I see nothing wrong with the Rebel flag either unless it is flown by a hate group. I have no use for people who hide under a sheet and try to use scare tactics on others. I just decided after 9/11 that Americans needed to stick together and that is why I fly only the American flag.
