The President needs to immediately step in and order a rollback in gasoline prices at the wholesale and retail level. This is an extraordinary situation.

I guess the Rome School Board wanted a "yes" man on the Board instead of somebody with fresh ideas. How else do you overlook people like Richard Dixon, Hal Storey and Bruce Jones with years of service and progressive leadership in this community?

People who say there is nothing to do in Rome have way too much time on their hands. There are more restaurants here than any other town this size in Georgia. There are plenty of places for music, including several places downtown. There are three theatres, two bowling lanes, a Par 3 course, minor league baseball, high school and college sports. The churches are filled over with activities.

Mountain Man has telling everybody for months that when the Georgia Court of Appeals got hold of this case they would make things right. Guess what? They did.

Go to www.gaappeals.us. Click Docket Search. Plug in the word Dunagan. It calls up the docket. Says "affirmed". The written opinion not up yet--probably because of the holiday.

I guess this really is the final word. The Dunagan supporters have suddenly and correctly fell silent after being proven wrong about all of their misguided comments.

The Georgia Court of Appeals has affirmed Judge Durham and the Floyd County jury's decision in Dunagan. It is on the Court of Appeals website this morning. That should put to rest and hush once and for all those supporting the convicted felon. The verdict and sentence--and everything the judge, prosecutor and arresting officers did--were proper. This needs to be the final word on this subject.

Let's make this clear. A mistake is when you trip and fall or you pick the wrong shirt from the closet. None of these deputies made a mistake. Each of them made a conscious decision to lie about another officer and to commit a crime. They received very minimal puinishment fpr their deliberate decision to commit a felony.

This is not a boon for our community. They let out of town vendors set up off Broad Street and suck dollars away from downtown businesses to give to outsiders. The merchants on Broad Street loses tens of thousands of dollars because nobody can get to them. Organizers give free food away to participants at The Forum, meaning that money is NOT spen at local restaurants. Businesses and schools are forced to close early, resulting in a loss of productivity and revenues. And, yes, I have been downtown. It is nowhere close to as exciting as high school football, the Rome Braves or the final round of the Masters. We receive a few minutes of coverage on an obscure cable channel (VS) while losing money in the deal. It is time for Rome to let another community "benefit" from this debacle.

What good does Tour de Georgia really do for Rome? The riders shut down traffic and force schools and businesses to close early and people to lose money. They allow all of these out of town and non downtown businesses to set up booths and sell food and draw people away from the downtown businesses. They don't allow their regular customers to park where they need to go. They feed everybody at The Forum, further depriving local restaurants and businesses of income. This drains millions of dollars from this town for a few minutes of mention on an obscure cable channel. Let's let another community enjoy this "benefit" next year.
