It seems to me that alot of you folks are on a smear campaign. Fine, smear if you wish thats your choice, though you might want to consider helping instead of criticizing. Does everyone remember who found the lady that was missing from villanow? It was someone out looking for aluminum cans. Maybe you should lend a helping hand and stop relying on everyone that you criticize to find this lady. How much time have each of you spent looking for her? If everyone went out on their own property and looked and then spent 30 minutes looking in areas around your property, if she were left somewhere by someone, you would think if everyone were looking she could be found. Pretend this was your daughter and help out. Wouldn't you want everyone to help you look? Whether you live near corinth or the LaFayette Air Port, go out and look. There is no telling where she will turn up or if she will but everyone should be looking. As far as rocky marriages go, How many of you would want the things that have happened in your personal to be exposed? Not many I bet. And if you would convict someone without the evidence to support their wrong doing then you are no better than the ones you criticize, and are as corrupt as you say some of these folks are. I hope everyone is looking and if you cannot look, Pray for her safe return. |

Madasheck you are right about that, The codes department should HELP people not try to go around acting like Barney Fife all the time and think they belong to the Police Department. It is evident that they want all the power thay can get by the way some of them wear our badge on their belt that is nothing more than a volunteer fire department badge. Some people don't know its a fire department badge though and are intimidated. People, Do what you want to do. If you want to keep these folks in office that will not even acknowledge you unless you make $40,000 or more, then fine keep em in there. If not, lets get em out. Just remember though, one day it may be you dealing with this bunch and remember this, they think everyone in this town is not smart enough to do what they do. Thats why all the insiders keep getting brought in. What are you gonna do when you need help and all the ones you used to know are gone, and all thats left are a bunch of people from big towns that give you the cold shoulder. It will be your decision, live with it. |

Getreal, In your post you amuse me, You said, Our elected City council has the last word, but it is not their function to do the "grunt" work in regards to winnowing through applicants. Council members are paid a small honorarium. City managers are paid a salary.Correct me if I am wrong , But in your last post they did not have time to do it. Here is your post “The council does not have the time nor inclination to sift through hundreds of applicants” Now you say it is not their job to do the grunt work. Will you please tell me why almost every member of this Council has went to the golf course during the preplanning stages of this new clubhouse that we are building. It seems in my opinion as well as others that this golf course is more important to our Councilmen than The Director of Public Safety. After all, They can research the best methods of building a Clubhouse, But do not have time to research a Public Safety Director. They let someone else do that for them because it is “grunt work” according to you. You mentioned in your new post how the Council members are paid a small “honorarium”, But you do not mention just how much that “honorarium” is, And what a Councilman does to obtain it. It seems this small “honorarium “ is to the sum of $300 per month. Now lets look at this for a moment. In one month the City Council meets one time. Sometimes a special session is called but very rarely. From what I understand, If a special session is called, The regular meeting will be cancelled. Every once in a while I am sure they meet on special occasions, I will give them that as you will see below. Here is the way this is looking to me. $300 for the Month, And One meeting. Now how long are the meetings? We will need to know that won’t we. The meeting started at 7:30 P.M. on Jan 8, 2007. The meeting adjourned at 8:10 P.M. Now lets see, that’s 40 minutes and I will give them 20 minutes extra just to be fair for the special meetings, discussing buisness, sitting on the couch in the City Managers office, ect. That’s a whopping $300 per hour per month. Sounds great to me. Then there is the variable that comes into play of whether they even bother to attend the meeting, Say they had to go to a ball game or a sporting event instead (And this does happen, check the attendance on the meeting minutes) Now I know what your thinking, what’s he getting to. Tell me, Do they get the 300 Dollars for a month that they do not attend these meetings? Are they not suppose to attend these meetings to represent the people they are suppose to be serving? I was told they do get this money and would like to know why? Someone should check and verify this. I also have now been informed that the same councilman that has been spoken of so highly on this blog (And always is said to be the one everyone could count on), Voted in a (Double Their Salary) raise for the Council and Mayor a while back, while failing to include our former City Judge Barry Hollis Sr. It has been said that the Judge did not receive this small “honorarium” as some put it. From what I was told, All he received instead of a raise was notice that the Mayor and Council were thinking about appointing his position. Upon questioning the Council and Mayor at one of the council meetings, Judge Hollis could not get anyone to tell him why, or who initiated it. It was said that only after the Council voted on this did Judge Hollis confront Mayor Florence and Finally Mayor Florence said he initiated it. When asked why, Mayor Florence said he thought this should be an appointed position, that having an elected Judge was a conflict of interest. Does anyone know why the Council wanted this position appointed? Why did the council not give the Former Judge a raise , But found they were entitled to a (Double their Salary ) raise? Did any of the council members think of someone other than their own pockets when this raise was brought up? What have they done that makes them deserve a raise, that the Judge has not done? Can anyone answer this question? Also I was told that after the Council voted on the Judges position being appointed, Some of these council members said maybe they needed to impose a minimum set of qualifications on the Judges position. This brings me to my next question, Does all of our councilmen have a business degree, or some qualifications that makes them qualified? Probably not. The reason the Judges position was almost appointed was because Judge Hollis did not go sit on the sofa and be a yes man. He would not let them tell him what to do and therefore they did not like him. It was evident that the council did not like him when they DOUBLED their salary from $150 to $300, and the Judges salary has not been changed, Why? Why would they do someone with 27 years of service this way, while treating themselves to a hefty raise. Someone should ask them that. It has also been stated to me that some of the City Council may have been playing golf while on training sessions and that the city was picking up the tab for this. I cannot verify this but surely someone can as there is always records of spending by each official that has to be recorded as public information, this is what I was told and it came from a very, very, reliable source, maybe someone could check on this too. Getreal, In a Democracy as you stated , People have a say in their government and the way it is ran. I find in this City our Democracy is eroding. Why else would our public officials not want to hear from its citizens. Because they want control? It sure seems this way to me. I would now like to address the problem we have with our city streets. They are pitiful to say the least. When I drive through town and my car is beaten to death, I find it hard to praise the government for this. The streets need paved. Not just in Dogwood Circle, Everywhere. Jwhitesc, I agree with you on the 34 applicants not being to much to read. It is my opinion that they just did not want to take the time to do the “grunt work” as some say. Getreal, in one of your posts, you said if you have the facts, post them. If you have serious problems with reality, write a novel. As you can see I have both. Thanks to all for reading this novel. |
