The WCP is not volunteers. They are paid employees of the county. The Chief of WCP is David Ashburn. Not all employees in WCP are mandated. Don Simmons recently retired and no longer works for the WCP.Bebe has allocated funds for raises of the officers under the Sheriff; however he chooses not to give it to them. There are a few “favorites” that will receive their regular raises, but as a whole, they have not. You must remember the Sheriff makes the decision how to spend his budget. I am aware of several instances of mismanagement of funds dealing with the Sheriff’s department. If you need proof, just ask a few of his officers. After all, they know more than the general public. |

Walker County does have a police department. They are more codes enforcement, but they can issue citations and carry weapons-they are actually mandated officers. The majority of their work consists of inspections of buildings for code issues and responding to public complaints such as too many unregisted vehicles in a yard, trash, lawn not being mowed, etc. They do not work accidents and are not dispatched through the 911 center. |

GSP REQUEST that they are called for all vehicle accidents, (excluding private property). It is not a requirement that they are called. They substantiate the amount of officers that are allowed by the amount of accidents they work. At least that is how it is in Walker County. And don't forget about the Walker County Police. |

I opened the can of worms. I will attempt to close it. Dawg…Disrespect is something you will not receive from me. If it was taken that way, I apologize. I agree the family is going through the most difficult thing they have ever had to endure. What you do not seem to understand is there are some of us that are going through the same thing. We may not have the blood bond that the family has, but do not ever doubt for a second that some have just as strong a bond with Theresa. Blood is not the only bond here. TT…As usual you were correct in your assessment (of my thoughts anyway). I cannot speak for Check, but I will assume he/she was very close to Theresa and is extremely frustrated, just as Dawg is. Please understand that we really are all in this together and we want justice just as much as the family. Please do not belittle our feelings or our relationship with Theresa. |

Familyfinder...Why on earth would the new girlfriend tell anything? She is aware of Sam's past and she chooses to still be with him. She must be as pathetic as him. She won't tell a thing. Theresa's disappearance aside, the domestic violence is obviously a pattern in his life and this "new" girl doesn't have enough self worth or confidence to walk away. |

There is one thing that is still nagging me…I still cannot for the life of me understand why Tim Miller has not been called. I can understand why LE has not called for assistance, but not the family. I am afraid that the family is listening to one GBI agent and is not following through with what their head may be telling them. If anything, Tim Miller and his organization would pursue this case without prejudice. They do not care about polls, elections, citizens, or possibly covering up for mistakes that they may have made. They are there for one thing…To find a missing loved one. How can that be denied? I understand the family needs closure, but so do the friends, co workers, blogger friends and our entire community. This case will forever be a part of my being. Every hurt, every doubt, every theory, every second that passes that Sam is free, leaves a scar on my soul. The family can curse me; the family can say it is none of my business. Well, it is my business. For everyone who has donated, attended the searches and the vigils, knew Theresa, prayed for Theresa and her family, cried for them all…It is our business and that will not change. Where is Theresa? Does he keep telling you they are almost there, just give it a little more time? How much more time? It is time to bring Theresa home. It is time to bring in Equusearch. |

Evan…Keep on doing what you are doing. I admire tenacity. What you are trying to do is commendable. I do not think anything will happen overnight or maybe even in our lifetime, but I do think that each piece we chip away at can bring us a little closer to the truth. This may be a fight that we cannot win, but for the sake of my own family I am willing to fight this battle with you. Most of you really need to understand just how much a dispatcher knows about the officers they work with. If you want the truth about an officer-ask their dispatcher. I assure you that you will be surprised. There are a lot of good officers out there. There are some bad ones. I for one want a Sheriff/Chief that will not tolerate abuse, favoritism, neglect, or discrimination from those who serve under them. Ultimately the department is only as good as those who serve. Right now, I am disappointed in the department. Not only with this case, but others. Evan-Did you receive my email? |

Anthony Gilleland (WCSD) is a genius when it comes to receiving grants. It is the Sheriff’s job to work hard and find money/equipment for his employees. You would be surprised how much you can receive through state/federal grants. The new armored vehicle revealed yesterday was a spawn of Mr. Gilleland’s hard work, research, paperwork, blood, sweat and tears. Mr. Gilleland took this task on himself to better the department he works for. The Sheriff did not seek him out for his specialty with grants. He should have.
As far as the Sheriff not having favorites, of course he does. I will not call names, but what about the recent new hire? The one that was turned down for mandate school by a board of SD members because he was too “immature”, yet to be sent to school privately and then was hired as a WCSD deputy anyway. This is the same one that has wrecked his patrol car 3 times and only being employed as a deputy for not even 2 months. Looks like money lost/abused to me.
How much did the Sheriff’s new office chair cost him? Mine is from Wal-Mart ($19.99), works just fine. You make think this is “small stuff”, well anyone that is on a tight budget knows that the small things add up.
The Sheriff may be a “good, decent man”, but that does not make him a good/decent Sheriff.
TT, since I am so low on the posting list, can this count as 10? I hate last place.
