I feel so out of the loop. So romegasir, you're telling me these stores sell drug paraphanalia too? I guess I live under a rock. I've never noticed but then I really don't even know what those type of products look like. You would think the paper or the local media would do a story on this. All I ever read about is the adult store in Shannon but I have not heard about any of this. An adult store is one thing but these convienience stores are right where everyone goes, including kids. Bert, thank you for the information. That is amazing. Is this legal? It sounds like this is a racketering situation to me, far more worse than just the porn mags. Blaster |

Brian, OK speech BUT I am skeptical. The President is known to be hard-headed. He never admits he's ever made a mistake and he is one of those "Yale boys" who think their decision making is always right. I do believe some degree of skeptism is wise and I don't just accept his comments carte blanche. On the other hand, the Democrats are so anti-Bush and anti-war, they can't admit the war has turned in our favor either. So, whatever Bush says, they're going to disagree no matter what. So, the truth is somewhere in the middle. So, who to believe? Hmmm, OK, I'll go with the General over the politicians. I just can't see him betraying his troops if he is only covering Bush's ass. He's the only reason I still am OK with what they are doing over there. I agree with John McCain. Rumsfield screwed up SO BAD over their with so many decisions over several years, it's taking a lot longer and costing more lives just to clean up the mess. But the problem with Bush is that he cannot come to admit his people screwed up. He defends at all cost. That is what I dislike about him. If he would just be real, I could support him. No wonder his approval ratings are in the toilet. That's why at the end of the day, I'm a Libertarian. I just wish they could win in elections. If you read their positions, you would be hard pressed to disagree with them. Blaster |

romegasir, I'm lost. What does "Indian-Americans" have to do with selling porn? True, a lot of that nationality work in convenience stores, dry cleaners, and hotels. But do they OWN all of them too?Blaster |

You know when I moved here, the first thing I noticed was that porn mags were all over Rome in gas and convenience stores- in plain view of children. I had my grandson with me at the time (about 5) and had to walk him out. It was embarrassing. I called both the City and County to complain, and that was years ago. Nothing has ever happened. There is a Citgo out on the Alabama highway that has a private room with DVD's, toys, dildos, etc. There is a door but both times I've been in there, the door was wide open. Any kids could get in there. Blaster |

Romegasir, I appreciate the info on the upcoming "meet and greet" and also to msla, thanks for your input. Those ideas are helpful. HOWEVER, with that being said, I really have a problem making a decision just on these "meet and greet" sessions. It's them with their best face forward, Sunday best, all-American canned speeches. I really don't like to make decisions that way. To me, it's somewhat a fake reality. DO you think we learn ALL about them at those meetings? Here's what I like to do. I like to find people who know them. People who knew them BEFORE they decided to run. People who know the good, bad, and ugly. And I am not a right-winger and more of a centrist, but I do like to know the PERSON, not just the politics- ESPECIALLY local politics. The old Congressman from Boston, Tip O'Neal was quoted once as saying "all politics is local." That is the truth. If I had my druthers, I would love to sit down at a bar somewhere with a tall cold one, and just get inside their heads and learn what they are into. Are they just feeding an ego to get their name in the paper? Do they have a mission? Is there a purpose? Actually, I hear more "word of mouth" that I believe than going to a meet and greet and getting the canned stuff. Now isn't this BLOG the place to HEAR. The sounding board? Does anyone even have an opinion yet OR are you just like me, undecided? And I guess that is probably OK since this all just got started. Here's a better question. Do any of you PERSONALLY KNOW any of the candididates and can vouch for them? How about that? Blaster |

Well, here's a good topic for discussion. Does anyone have any opinions on the City Commissioner race? I have no idea who to vote for. I would love to hear from people who might give me some suggestions. I am open. I guess it's a good thing 17 people are running but I sure am lost on that one. What are the qualities we want here? Political parties don't really matter (correct, romegasir?) so it comes down to the "issues." Blaster |

Hmmmm Romegasir:Abortion- NOT going there in a million years. Death penalty- I'm for it, especially with DNA testing today that should keep us from locking up the wrong person. However, I am also for public hangings. Let's bring back the fun in the death penalty! Racism- not me. Does that still exist around here? Immigration- boring. Need the Mexicans to do my yard and paint my house! What else Col. Sanders?? HA HA! Blaster |
