This is completely crazy. This whole case was brought to my attention by my mother who thought she recognized the man who was arrested in this case...the bad part was, I recognized him too. I took tennis lessons from Bart for about a year, and I can truly say that I didn't see this coming. Now, I'm not saying that he was a god-fearing, righteous man...but, he kept to himself. I figured he was just a hardass...or even worse, a hermit. He was a consistent tennis player, and he was firm with his instructions. He didn't take crap. I eventually quit taking lessons from him because I was sick of his attitude. :/ He seemed to be angry at all moments, and it was rare to catch him in good spirits. I decided I'd be just as well without the lessons and continued playing for La Fayette High. So I spent my senior year practicing on courts alongside him at the recreation center, not even suspecting that he'd be in the mess he's in now. It's so crazy to think that this person, that you'd actually had personal time with on the courts, was doing this the whole time. I've known who Bart was since middle school, he was talked about for his tennis skills and the such. Not for his pornography collection. :/ I'm just baffled and surprised at hearing this. I had made jokes about his van in the past being a "free candy van" which is interpreted as a van in which children are taken into lured by "free candy", but I never expected it to come true. Being a teenager, I didn't know what effect my joke may have had on society. But now, being graduated from high school, I realize that just because I live in a small town, and things have been for the most part safe, we're really not. These things aren't funny, and they do happen to people...innocent, scared people...every single day. My heart is full of pain for that child. The things that were done to her, they were terrible. Animalistic and sick. I couldn't imagine being in her position, and at such a young age. She was 5 years old...you barely know what all the parts of your body are, much less why this man is touching you and taking photos of them...and for these behaviors to continue for four years...to the age of 9? The emotional and physical pain of this child must be tortuous. I want more than anything for her to live a safe and happy life...but I can't promise that. No one can. But that's the world for you. It's really terrible to know that La Fayette is being exploited this way and that for these terrible things. This town does have its bad parts...but those shouldn't outweigh the good... The Marsh House trial was known nationwide, and was quite the embarassing event for our marching band back in 2006, when we attended the Gator Bowl. Everyone there referred to where we lived as "that place near the crematory". I could imagine it was quite the embarassing thing for everyone who lived here. It was the first of those "i couldn't believe it..." moments. Sam Parker was another travesty this past year with the murder of his wife, Theresa. My father worked with him at the police department years ago when he was on the force, and he never thought of him as a bad person. But it's just ANOTHER instance where you couldn't believe it...but it happened. And now, with Bart. This is just a HUGE mess. Being tracked down by the bow attached to your wall? And the fabric in the bedsheets and curtains at the hotel you took the little girl to? Technology and intelligence are booming necessities in the world today...how can you think that you can get away with something that horrible? How can you be sick enough to commit such an act? I want to know what he was thinking when he was holding that knife to that little girl in those videos and pictures...what was running through his mind? Didn't he know he was doing something wrong? Of course he did, but why did he continue to do it? Maybe he figured he'd get caught..but until then, he'd continue the acts that brought him to a euphoric state...or did they? I could go on for hours, but basically, it takes a weak person to do these things. I can't exactly say that I don't believe it was him, because I do believe it. He had the secretive gestures and the tough stature of someone that you'd think to have no heart. It's one thing to have those traits, but a complete other to have those traits and commit a federal offense like this. I knew he had a wife, and actually, I believe the woman mentioned in the article is her...but I wouldn't blame her for not claiming him at this point. That's probably why her relation isn't mentioned. :/ And I'm sorry if my writing disturbs or offends anyone. I didn't mean for it to. It's just that this whole thing has been such an eye-opener in my life. I mean, I've always known that there were bad people in La Fayette...there are bad people everywhere. And for the most part, I've been able to avoid them...but occasionally they slip into even the safest and most trusted parts of your life [hence the tennis courts] and commit crimes like these and hurt people along the way. I know Bart made a good bit of money from being a tennis instructor. He had many students over the years, and friends with whom he played tennis with...all of the money should definitely go to the little girl. She deserves to live without complications as long as she possibly can. And as for Bart, his sentence should be well over his lifetime...and personally, I'd have him killed. I know without a doubt in my heart that if he were to touch my little girl and do those things to her for all those years, he wouldn't make it to the trial's hearing... This just makes me wonder...were any of his friends he played tennis with involved? I didn't know any more about Bart than what happened on the courts...so I wonder... :/ |
